Thanks Tim!!!
I will be happy to help with any questions that I can. There may be somethings that I can't diagnose though. For those, I will refer you to someone who can sit down at your PC to determine the problem. However, most things can be fixed EASILY.
No question is dumb, please feel free to ask anything.
*(other than if I've caught any fish cause that answer is just about always NO - I'm jinxed)*

TONY, I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU....
When I do my disk cleanup everything gets cleans up except for the 'compress old files'. I do have it checked and it still always reads 264,363K~Is there some way to clean this up or compress these old files?
I have a new computer and it has become very 'BOGGY'... I clean up all I know to clean up but it is getting so it loads like I'm on dial up and we have cable....Any suggestions?????

Beenie, try downloading a program called ccleaner
It should help you out. That, and get a couple of anti-spyware/adware programs

Hey T
What we got is Beenie on new computer, Windows Media Center XP
running with Windows defender and CA virus protection
This has been going on for a while, not sure when it started or what was
"significant" if anything about when it started, has not been running like that
all along
Not sure what it could be being caused by but full scans don't show any problems
Bout ready to take our old origional XP home disc an wipe out media center
crap an start over, have not heard lot of "good things" bout media center
sure has a start up list of programs that covers bout 2 screens!
TDawgNOk

you do know that msconfig can take care of the extraneous stuff that starts up don't ya?
on a serious note, try AdAware

get me a list of what all is in the start up and I'll see what you can take out.
Also, get adaware and spybot.
There is also one I believe is calleg AVG spyware guard or something like that by Grissoft.
Microsoft defender isn't that good.

No problem.
One other suggestion for you, and this is for EVERYONE
Mozilla Firefox
Use it instead of IE.
Right now On my work computer, it is using 80,212 K and I have 8 pages open in 8 different tabs. I have 7 IE windows open, they are taking a total of 155920 k.
The firefox pages are all actively updating *(video or sound)* the ie windows aren't.

Will check into mozilla ain't they got new upgrade coming out or just came out??
Sent you email with Beenies list, is really somthing, think she can delete bout
half of what is there
Modem I am not sure what that is supposed to be but we are on cable would not see that as needed either?

Soupy,
They are getting caught by the internet dust bunnies. This has become a real problem for some people lately. The best thing you can try and do is use your shop vac to suck all the dust bunnies out of your phone line.
on a serous note, when you save the file, try renaming it. Then, if you can't find it, go to start, and then search

No problem.
Its amazing how fast your computer can run when you have it "running on all cylinders" instead of half of them being used to run stuff that ain't needed.
Timotha7
10-27-2006, 03:41 PM
I put in that firefox 2.0 too, and I am AMAZED how much faster I am surfing
an at the totally useful tools that are on that browser, can see why when
Cnets pros did a head to head IE7 scored like 27 an Firefox scored like 64 an
just blew them totally away!
Gonna take lil time to get used to it but it is a real jewel

Beenie, I am very sorry for turning Tim into a monster.
It'll take you physically shutting down his PC and disconnecting it from the internet before you are able to get him away from the computer now.
Timotha7
10-27-2006, 04:01 PM
Yep, I will be playing with this Firefox for a while, I like new things, an this one gots bout 1000 ad-on's ought to be able to make it climb trees an bark at the moon when it is all said an done

Tony, before I had that large virus in my PC I had in my "Tools an Ispell icon which when I clicked on it it would show my spelling errors and give me a choice of correct spellings to choose from. I no longer have this in my tools. I used this a lot in my posting as I am not a good speller.
Any idea what I have to do to get this option back. Thanks, Schoe

Schoe,
I am not familiar with Ispell other than I believe it was originally for unix and has been ported to work with windows. Let me research it and I will get back to you!

Schoe, today is your lucky day!!
Go get ISPELL (http://www.computeractive.co.uk/vnunet/downloads/2128669/ie-spell-01) from this site.
They give a brief review and have a download button.

Tony, It has been brought to my attention that our members can't post any pictures in our photo gallery. This seemed to happen about the time we changed servers. Any ideas? Schoe

I keep getting emails from friends ( yes I got some) that are Power Point Document Files...When I try to open them it says "save" or cancel so I save... But, when I go to where I saved them and try to open them it says "File Cannot be Found"
where they going?
Download and install Powerpoint viewer:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/browse.aspx?displaylang=en&productID=286C1147-414F-4754-B017-8E9A930A899A
It is free and you can view pps to your hearts content...

I Have A Picture 'host' Like Photobucket, When You Upload Your Picture There It Gives You A Url.
Timotha7
12-10-2006, 04:19 PM
http://photobucket.com/
Soupy, just go there an open up an account, then you put pictures into it from your computer just like you would put an attachment here, by browsing
then when the picture is put on photobucket website you will have URL for the image that you can put on your post
When you are going to upload an image you have to have it set as
***URL*** the img brackets allow the site to post the image with your posts
If you get photo bucket account should be pretty easy for you to do, if you have problems lemme or Tony or Beenie or anyone of us know an we can help you get it up there
*** need to try an keep inline photos like that in the 500x375 pixel size range and JPG or GIF images with fairly reasonable file size or it can slow
the site down some for those that have dial ups cuz they have to download
an show the photos

Don't have an estimate now for that, we are working on it
None of the photos have been lost, so hopefully once it is all figured out
we should be able to recover the whole thing intact

Taylor,
I understand yer concern about the photo gallery. Great way to show off pictures. HOWEVER, unfortunately I don't have an update. What I can tell you is that the MODS are working on this faithfully and dutifully so that they can get it resolved as soon as possible. I'm sure that Tim and Schoe will make a post when it is back and working.

can anyone tell me why i have refresh all the time to see new replies?
Timotha7
04-13-2012, 06:25 PM
That is by design, if pages automatically/continuously refreshed it would create to much load on the
server, so you have to refresh manually to see new posts to keep server load down
