I like all my reels lol it all depends on the fishing I am doing. If cat fishing my abu 6000 reels for trolling my Daiwa AccuDepth Linecounter Reel AD27LC I have them spooled with spider wire 20 pound works great with the down riggers and stuff.
for bass hmm my shimanos Curado and Chronarch are my favorite for panfishing I like my Slab Seeker pole and reel combo 4.5 foot pole just love it. I did catch a 4 pound large mouth on it one day what a rush that was 2 pound test fighting that bass was a ball. for my fly fishing I have several poles and reels i think the one my uncle Jim got me when I was 8 years old from LL Bean If I recall right love that thing.

I use open face (spinning) and bait casting, it depends on the situation. Bait casting for bigger lakes and rivers, and spinning for ponds while catfishing. Spinning is my choice when crappie, bass, bluegill, and walleye fishing.

Well generaly I'm catfishing so I'll say for general fishing I use baitcasters. For special porpose, like catching bait, I use either a closed face spin caster or an open face spinning reel.

Like spinning reels
Only time ever used "baitcasters" was on salt an those were winches

Spinning reels are what I am comfortable with an have not run into situation where they would not handle anything that I could get a hook into

I reckon most of you guys know what I use 'cause I talk 'bout them all the time... Penn.....209s,309s, and now I have a brand new, never been used 220 (can't wait to try it out) all of these reels, ofcourse, are baitcasters..209s are spooled with 50 lb line and the 309s are spooled with 80 lb test line.. The new 220 has got 50 lb on it right now but, might change that after the first time out... I use the abu 6000 with 65 lb braided line for bait fishin' , I know sounds like over kill but, have you ever hung a 40 lb strpier while bait fishin'. (well, maybe he weren't that big but, he was a big'un)
As you've seen in a couple of my other post........I don't have much luck with the lighter tackle like spincasters and little stuff like that... But, I do love my little Zebo Micro for playin' with them ole hirren and skipjacks !
Forgot about the rods.................I have 7 Eagle Claw 5.5 ft boat rods and 2 Daiwa Sea Line X 7.5 ft for the big reels...Now , I have done gone and done something that I said that I'd never do again.... BUY ShakeSpear !... Well, I did... I've bought 3 ShakeSpear Rods... The Ugly Sticks.. 2 Tigers and 1 Catfish rod....I think they're all 7 +ft

Soupy you sure got a lot of gear!

I got heavy surfcasting Shakespeare spinner on 7ft 1 piece ugly stick
LOL(like 1 piece rods) that is river rod and for big baits when fishing for
flats in lakes that have them

Got me 4 others that are "multi purpose" from ul to med heavy, all fitted
with spinning reels 3 boys use that have eagle claw and shakespeare
reels mine has Shimano on Lightening rod use same reel on a quantam
iron rod as well depending on what I am fishing for and when I am fishng

Most of my river fishing is done with lighter weight gear, but water here
is only bout 50 yards across an you are taking fish at your feet off rip rap
for the most part

otherwise I am in lakes an in open water you can get away with lighter
gear most times, though there is a fish in strip pit I fish (have hooked him 2 times in same spot) that has taken lot of my line an went straight down then broken me off
thinking it is likely a very big channel or a flathead, have not seen much of him cept the swirl :-(

Soupy, those tiger rods are really good rods for catfishing. I have a bunch of them and really like them. I use Penns mainly, the 320's, and use some 7000garcias as well. I use 80lb powerpro on almost everything. Just ask Ken over at Kens TBC about how much powerpro I have bought from him. Love the stuff. I like Kahle hooks for hooks and have a lot of different types of rods for cats, depends on the fishs mood.LOL

Was just down to Kens the other day... Had a couple of reels cleaned and my buddy bought a Penn pod...Seems to be a good place to shop.... Did find out that Ken, my buddy and myself all worked at Pyro Mining at the same time..But, never met down there.
I tried the Prower Pro 40lb once... Turned me plumb against it. I use Ande's 50 and 80 lb now.

99.9% of the time I have a baitcaster in my hand. I do have 3 nice spinning reel outfits but rarely use them unless them bass are really finicky. I usually carry 7 rods on the front deck of my boat so that if the situation arises that I need another type of lure quick, I already have one tied on and ready. Most days it depends on where I am on the river. Whether I'm in the slop or running banks. Typically I usually have 2 topwater frog rods,2 heavy flippin' and pitchin' rods, a vibrashock, a rattle trap and a jig. That will usually cover most situations.

I have all kinds and lots of em, kinda go's with the territory, but I prefer baitcasters, I'm very fond of my 6500 ABU's, I love the 7000's, but I have a couple of new Shakesphere Contenders G30's that are flat bad to the bone. Mounted on 7' 30/50 custom rods I think I just might jerk the lips right off a big ole blue.
