Being an ice addict I travel quite a bit to be on the ice. This Sturday it is a 6 hour drive to get to good ice and I have driven further.
How far do you or will you drive just to go ice fishing?

I've always wanted to do Rainy Lake MN in Feb. That would be a 14hr drive for me.

6hrs into Canada once... Plus the 5 it took to get to the border:cool:

But I mostly don't have to go far... right now I could be on the lake in 10min.

I have driven 100+ miles in desperation to find fishable ice ,but certianly don't make a habit of it .Most of the time I am within 50 miles of a place to go. Mike

Furthest I have gone is bout 50 miles but I "specialize" an pretty much
concentrate on perch an take anything else comes by as bonus

Keep telling myself one day I am gonna make the drive up north an try for
some of those Jumbo Perch, but so far have never got it done

Ron... I live about 6 hours from Redstone, but I have a extra bed if your up for the drive, I can get you on plenty of ice. Kind of tough over the holiday weekend, but any time you like just drop me a line... If I'm going to be here and not at one of the Ice Team events... your welcome to sit in my Guide.

Thanks Kev,
One of these days I might take you up on that. I am considering th Mn, trap since they finally named the lake and species.

Tim, What would you consider to be a jumbo? I get them 13 to 15 inches on average in June (Sometimes a smig bigger) and up to 13 through the ice around here.

Kev lives about 27 miles from the fiasco on Carlos. He was a great host to Neal and myself last fall and I hope to fish with him again.
For those of you that think 100 miles is far I had a call from a buddy in north west Nebraska he said the ice is good and the gills big.
I have driven to Devils Lake, Nd to fish and thats over 16 hrs.
Ron the bigger perch start hitting in April even march 15 plus inches on the big pond
