Gonna try to fish the Colorado for flats do you guys have a suggestion for rigs? i heard some guys use a large sliding sinker with no swivel, just main line and a bead then a large hook then a blue gill. I have a boat but normally I have my 2 boys with me and just bank the boat and pull the chairs out for the night on a killer hole. Slow deep water is what I think would be the best right?
Suggestions are appreciated.

if you are useing rodnreel you need to have your weight about a foot above your hook. if bank poles i would rig them the same way. if you are going to use throw lines i cut a willow pole 6to8 foot long and stick it at an angle to the water with the tip out over the water then i tie the string at the bottom of the pole and again at the top of the pole then i make the throw line but i only use 3 to 4 hooks then i weight it on the end and then i take a plastic jug and length of string and tie it on and throw it out and to see if the jug floats freely or stands up in the water if it does i adjust it till it half stands up if its loose i adjust it so it half stands up then in a couple places tie weights on it on a foot of string to hold the line about a foot off the bottom as flatheads arent bottom feeders. i know this sounds like alot of work but its well worth it i have caught alot of 5 and 10 pounders this way. i rig the pole this way because this way the fish doesnt have a dead straight pull to get away. i always bait with live bait. be sure you have your name address on your poles.

tdpasser, I would suggest sliding sinker, bead, then large swivelon your main line. Then leader (length to be determined by structure) and hook. The swivel will help keep the bluegill from twisting your line. If current is light, hook bluegill behind dorsel fin. If current is swift, hook bluegill through forehead. If any more questions, just ask.

I'm with them on this. Just use the basic slip rig. You can't go wrong just adjust it to the current and structure that you have. Good luck to you and let us know how you do.
