I ran across this information in our local paper. The dispatch w/ outdoor editor Bob Groene wrote the article.
Tommy Scarlis, Walleye Pro,added this info at the end of his seminar. He suggested that anglers try consuming a fish species that many anglers skoff at. It is the Freshwater Drum or sheephead. The key is to dress or fillet the fish immediately after it is killed, discarding all the red meat, then soak the fillets in cold water, where a sheen will form on top of the water. Change the water and wait for the sheen to form again and repeat the process several times
Many times I have served deep fried drum to friends at home and when I tell them what kind of fish it is they don't believe me. He calls it the Rodney Dangerfield of fish.
You stand Informed, Mike

Taylor, You are not the only one! Now we will have an honest test by the young and old. lol I would imagine that the shad like smell of those sheephead is a part of that oil sheen that needs to be removed. It would be so neat to break, once and for all, the myth that the sheephead is no good. . Mike
