#4 red circle hook, small piece of live earthworm, make sure he still has some wiggle to him. ;)

I haven't tried bread for bluegill bait but the kids enjoy tossing it out for them to the little shore gills. Wheat bread works very well for spring carp as a dough ball.
You mentioned chicken. An ice fisherman told me once that the bite had quit on him. He had brought fried chicken with him and ate a piece before baiting up with wax worms. That started the bite again. He never goes ice fishing without some fried chicken or at least a piece of skin to treat his fingers.

Oh ok, you should try bread though it works good...;)

I tried those when I was a kid. Didn't like them myself. Worms and crickets are the best.

After about April 1st here it gets warm enough for the nightcrawlers to come out and play!!:D After a heavy rain i just walk around the block a few times with an ice cream bucket filled with dirt and peices of newspaper(keeps them alive longer somehow) usually get about 100 on a good night....that lasts me about 2 weeks tops then i gotta go get more!!!! Its a never ending cycle!!:p Never tried bread before?? I doubt it would work on the river 'gills around here but i might try it on some farm ponds sometime.....carp sure love them doughballs!!! I lost the directions on how to make them though?!?!? Anybody got a recipe they'd be willing to give up!! I'd appreciate it!! Thanks!!-Taylor
P.S.-I can't seem to find many crickets around here for some reason?!?!?! When i do get a couple the Bluegills just smash 'em!!! Might have to try and find a few more this year!!!!

ohhh, sorry taylor, cant help ya with the bread, but for crickets dig a hole big enough for a butter container in your backyard, put 2 slices of bread in the butter container and put it in the hole so its just under the ground, put a board over the butter contianer so only an inch wide gap is left, place the trap in the late afternoon and collect your crickets the next morning
what ya gotta do to the bread is moisten it...this means to shove it in your mouth:rolleyes: ...so its most and stays on hook longer..ya gotta use a bobber though........or else..........the fishing sucks:mad:

Bwob-Yeah i figured ya gotta get it moist so it stays on the hook or else it'll fall righ toff!! I will try that too!!:D
:p you should, it really works...even like pond scum works too...
( I was desperate for bait)

how u keep bread on a hook???? do you use that pantyhose that I talked bout??
NO, you just like put a little bit of bread in your mouth to moisten it and it "should" stay on the hook it works for me...he guess what, if you got GOLD bluegill hooks and just cast out the little bluegill should hit it. This happened to me today when I went catfish fishing today with my friend joe. (who recently joinded, his name is joefish.):D

ok BWOB, your in the south heres a fun way to get worms, find a part of your yard thats got soft soil, drive a wooden stake into the ground about 24 inches and start tappin it lightly with a hammer, grunt worms think the vibrations mean its raining and they will start poppin to the surface like crazy.......... you can also run the head of an axe or hatchet over the stake in a light motion its called grunting, and its a fun seldom used way to get grunt worms.
