I had a few lakes availabe that I have been wanying to check out for ice fishing in Iowa. I started across Iowa, stopping at a number of lakes that I had heard about. I caught a lot of small gills and crappie. The bite was very light and far between.
I finally stopped at a lake on the way home that I enjoy fishing in my float tube. It is basicly a timbered lake. (that is not a timbered pasture in the pictures) I drilled a lot of holes and fished about 4 hrs. I was over 20 ft. of water and brush. I only caught 3 gills and 1 14" bass. The gill in the poorly taken picture does not do it justice. It is 3/4 pound + .
I could have easily driven the Jeep out on the 14" of ice to fish were it not for two problems. It is MY Jeep, and I would have had to drive it on 20' of water.
Not all ice fishing trips are sucessfull in catching fish, but still enjoyed getting out and trying. Mike
