Bowfin, or dogfish are called grinnell at Reelfoot TN. Minners and worms should get them. as well as smaller spinners. If you do get one on, be ready for a tussle. Those things put up a fight. I and the grandsons caught a few at the Reelfoot lake spillway on Minnows. We gave ours to an old feller that likes to eat them . Pegleg probably has a good way to fix them if they come from decent water of course. . Mike

Bowfins or mudfish will eat anything a bass will. I have caught them on everything from a worm to a shiner. They love to eat your shiners. I usualy move if I start catching them, they are a good sign to pick up and find cleaner water. I have never ate one, or heard of anyone that has though.

hahaha Those fish on the cover page are Eelpouts. They look somethin like a bowfin but they are a freshwater cod. I've never caught one of those so I'm not sure what their teeth are like. You sure don't lip them bowfins. You'll be goin to the horspistol to get sewed up.

in La. we call them Choupique..pronounced "shoe-pick".....only way we eat them is in a fish patty or fish ball..usually mixed with potato's,bread crumbs, onions and spices and then fried....i've eaten plenty like that and they taste great...but i made the mistake of trying fried choupique one time...haven't eaten any since lol taste like fried mud!
im confused here... what do ya mean by lipping em...given em a kiss?

No, not a kiss,Although some fishermen do that, What lipping means is when you grab the fish by the lip to land him with your thumb and fingers and hold him up to unhook the fish. If the fish has big sharp teeth it's not a good idea to do that, Big teeth piercing your thumb might spoil your fishing trip.
in all the pictures i've seen of em..none of them have teeth...I think:confused:

Oh they have teeth, and a bunch of them at that. The ones that I have caught usually bite my line in half after a quick fight.

I saw on that site that people think they put up a good fight. I have to disagree myself. The first part of the fight is pretty strong, comparable to a mixture of bass and catfish. They give up pretty easy though. At least thats what they do to me.
