Well guys I live close to Iowa and fish in that state also, I have fished Lake of the hills and in Ceder Rapids last year. And it's nice to be able to fish ether shore of the Mississippi depending on which way the wind is blowing.

LOL everyone
Lets do this section having like an Iowa Chat thread (this one works)
and then start threads on the waters you fish

Start thread using the lakes or rivers name, will make it easier for everyone to find and check out when they are looking for information

Like a thread
"Fishing Lake of the Hills in Iowa"
Then post the information you can put together on the lake

Tim, There are times after a good catch on a south Iowa lake that my memory fades when trying to remember the lake name  .Would it still be ok to post about it and just give general location?? Perhaps something like-----Had a good day on a south Iowa lake located somewhere between Montreal Canada and Mexico City ,Mexico??? :D :D  Mike

Maurice, I always do my best to give a person a place to start. lol The underwater stump over where that big cottenwood used to be holds good sized gills. Mike

LOL Mike, keep your hot spots secret

fishing new water, in Iowa or anywhere else for that matter

To my mind you start with wether you have moving water or not moving water
then you start putting together a game plan for where you are going to fish
based on what kinda fish you are after, what time of year it is, the type of water (clear, muddy, weedy etc) structure you want to look for
If you can get map for lake is good deal

But basically when you are fishing for a predator it has been my experience
that they all have a bunch in common in how they move around and feed

If you can catch say Walleyes in the river, you should be able to put together a game plan that will work for Flatheads, or Crappie or Northerns
etc

Bottom line is EXPERIENCE--more on the water time you can get the better, and keep track of what you do and where you catch your fish, and what you caught them on under what conditions

If you have lil notebook it is good, my grandpa taught me to keep one a long time ago

Tim, I completely agree with what you said!! My dad thinks it's wierd that I have to right down all of that stuff when we're done hunting/fishing like the weather, fish caught, lures, etc. but I like to look back on it and it can pay off a lot in the future!!!:D Good Luck everybody!-Taylor
