Thanks Schoe!
I'm yet to do this myself (perhaps I'm too weak).
It all looks so easy in your photos though :)

This is the first time I've seen an article on deer skinning that is nearly the same as how I do it .
I make braintan deer leather during the winter. It is used by craftsman making or replicating old time native american and buckskinner clothing.
I skinned deer for a few years at a local locker plant.
The things we done differently is that we skinned the ears off with the hide. This leaves a bulk point to catch a choke chain, eliminating the need for a ball.
This method leaves a hide free of the dreaded knife scores normally found througgout the hide.
My sincere compliments on your well done article!!!!!:D :D :D Mike

Bigfish, believe me it is easy. The secret is to get it prepped right before starting to pull. A little knife work on the ground like splitting the hide on the legs and get them skinned out and the neck skinned down far enough to work with. We will have the processing for the Freezer "how to" with pictures on before Deer season this year. I had everything ready to put on before I left for Fla. but time got away from me.
Canning deer will be another "how to" we will have on before Deer season 06. It is a super way to keep deer and is easy and delicious. Schoe

Ill.giller, Thanks for the compliment. The comment about the ears would certainly make it easier than fooling around with a rock or golf ball.
I turned 61 a couple of days ago and hope I never quit learning something new. Thanks Schoe

Windigo, rabbits are a snap to dress and then stuffed with home made Sauerkraut and baked till tender. Ahhh, I can almost smell it cooking. Schoe

Schoe, thanks for sharing. I watched a hunting show a few weeks ago that promised to teach you how to do just what you're article shows. It was a dud. They skipped over most of the parts and only showed end results. I hate when something promises one thing and gives you another. So again, thanks!
