MY biggest fresh water fish is that Spoonbill in my profile.
That fish had a Heck of a story behind it.
OK HERE I GO!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the middle of may of this year just like every year the white Bass run up the white river here in north west Arkansas. And every year I go to Rip there Lips. On beaver lake and all waters going in and out of it there is no limit on white bass. So it brings out hungry fishermen from near and far with a chance to fill there freezers for the long summer. This may a friend of mine ask me If I would take him out for some whites. Well we loaded up and headed out. After a short trip up the river I threw out a small wild eye shad (storm lure) to troll, and see if I could find a school of fish. As I set the pole down and started to tie one up for Dave, I heard the rod slide across the transom. When I looked back the rod was doubled over I looked at the graph and it showed 30' of water and at 15' a big swoosh. That big swoosh was the biggest fish in the lake.
My tackle was a 7'6 stcrox rod with a shimano 2500 reel with 6# line. And like I said the biggest fish in the water was tied to it . So I told dave I had a good one, He said "ya a big log!!!!" boy was he wrong. As I stood up the fish started his run. Just like most waters today the water is covered by people with no respect for others and will drive past you at mach 10 in there boats or on there jet ski's. This lowered the odds for me and raised them for the fish. After a 1/2 hour the fish finally showed her self and just as I thought by the fight it was a spoonbill and a big one I judged it at 75#. Dave took over at the motor and little did I know it was his 1st time.
After a quick run down on how it all works and a few times of dave trying to throw me out of the boat we were finally on the same page.
Boats traveling up and down the river start stopping to watch me lose that fish. But that was not going to happen if I had any thing to do with it. As time went on and hours went by other fisherman started to heckle me "hay boy real that damn fish in" and "give me the rod I will get it for ya". They had no idea the size of the fish and size of my line. Finally after 3 1/2 hours the fish came to it side, I told dave put your hand in its mouth. And to my surprise he did clean threw its mouth and out its gill. I threw down the rod and grabbed the monster and took him to the deck.A short applause fell over the crowd and a hard smacked high 5 from dave and it was over. When I finally got her in she was huge. Dave said whats next and I said "WE GO HOME DAVE WE GO HOME". As we traveled back a fish and game officer stop us he had heard about the fish. As he looked at it he said it was the biggest fish he had ever seen in real life. We took the fish and got a official weight it was 90 1/4 pound 5' 7 1/2 long and 40"girth
The weight of the fish would of been higher but it took 2 hrs to find a scale that would weigh it. So the fish had dried out a lot it could of broke a 100# if we could of got her on the scale faster. Oh well at leas I caught a Fish cause DAVE DID NOT CATCH A THING.
THE END

holy spoonbill! i haven't seen one of those in ages, when i was younger we used to visit branson missouri quite frequently, and my dad and brother would go fishing for those, when i was younger they seemed as big as whales, i can't imagine trying to bring one in!
