I saw on ESPN last night that Bonefish was given the "Best Sport Fishing Fish" or something like that.....now, I've never even heard of a bonefish. Can anyone help me out here?

The bone fish are considered to be the strongest fighting fish in the
gulf, they are long, get to be fairley large and are fished for a lot from
a shallow draft boat being pushed along by a pole in 2 to 3 ft of water while
the man poles the boat he is also trying to site the fish for the other
fisherman.most of the time the fisherman is useing a fly rod.and the pole
man is wearing polerized sun glasses,to make it easy to spot the fish
and telling the fisherman where to cast his fly.they will also can be
taken on spinning gear as they will also take those type baits.they are
very boney and not really on the fish to eat list, just another sport fish.
one thing that may happen while they are poling along,is coming across
a big school of large redfish, they are great fighters also.and very good
eating.i just watched a show on Hooked On Fishing and Catch 47 T.V.
the shows are on every night,in the TAMPA BAY area.always learn
something from that show,as i am not to well schooled on SALTWATER
FISHING.That is 1 reason we joined the ANCLOTE KEY ANGLERS.I hope to have them posting information,in our new SALTWATER area.i dont know
if this will anwser your question in full, but it is a start in the right
direction.

Interesting. Annie, I hadn't ever heard of them either. But I did a Google search and found this interesting definition site: http://indian-river.fl.us/fishing/fish/bonefish.html

That picture of the bonefish freaks me out a bit. Check out the mouth. What kind of fish smirks like that? Kind of reminds me of a freaky animated cartoon where the fish is contemplating the demise of all fishermen. Not what I want to think about when I'm about to endeavor out on the lake.

Live2Fish, hadn't thought about the smirk factor. I guess all fish have that look at one time or another, LOL! Bobber Dude, not at all sure I'd want to catch one. Captain Kirk, are they realy good eating?
