I order Butter worms from Northern Ohio and will have some when I get to Fla. this winter. If the pan fish like them there as well as they do up north we will have a blast with them. Schoe

SCHOE
I take it that BUTTER WORMS,is another name for meal worms.up north
when ice fishing,do you keep them in your mouth to keep them warm?
the word BUTTER,sounds like a man wouldnt care if he ate a few.and
when you get here i always keep 500 crawlers in the wifes crisper drawer.
it did not take me long to start ordering BULK,as they are $3.00 a dozen
down here,it comes to 97 cents per dozen that way.i sell some to the
locals here at $1.50 a dozen saving them $1.50 and they are glad to get
them.it is only 17 days before you head out,man the time flys, here
most of the time i dont know what the date is,but the only thing i need
to know is when our checks are in the bank, and pay the bills.good way
to keep track of time.yeasterday we went to my boat dealer and got a
BAY LINER SPORT MODEL,18 ft center console,90 hp MERCURY,and a few
other goodies,we pick it up tuesday.and i still have not sold all our boats,
this is the LAST ONE,that i will get?

The Butter Worms. are really Trevo Worms which are the soft Larva of the Trevo Moth which comes from the mountains of Chile. They are 3/4 " to 1 1/2 " long. They are soft and pliable like wax worms and are an orange to red in color. when they are poked with a hook they omit a yellow matter like soft butter, hence the name, and the pan fish love them here and up north in Wis. and Minn. I am very anxious to try them in Fla. Schoe

I would like to know where you get them too, Schoe.
Capt. Kirk, in your earlier post you talked about 97 cent a dozen crawlers in bulk. Are you talking nightcrawlers or something else. If you are talking nightcrawlers, where do you get them in bulk? With the icejig and worm technique I have described on this and the "other" site that I use I go through worms like crazy. It isn't nothing for me alone to go through several dozen nightcrawlers a day. At $1.50 or more a dozen here, I can't hardly afford to fish anymore. Besides, the cashier looks at me and my family like were crazy when we buy 10-20 dozen nightcrawlers. I have decided that I would like to get them in bulk, but would like the best deal. P.S. any one know the best ways to keep bulk worms alive and healthy?

I will post the address on here tomorrow for the place I buy bulk nightcrawlers and Trevo Moth Larva "Butter Worms". When you order them make sure you tell them how you found out about them. I order 500 crawlers at a time and keep them in a refrigerator turned down as low as it will go. I have had good luck feeding them powdered milk and coffee grounds. Schoe

The place in Ohio that I have been buying my bait in bulk has an 800 number and that is 1-800-955-8795. I don't know if I have mentioned anything about our web site to them but you might mention us when calling. Schoe

HEY SCHOE
I will give them a call today, and compare prices and delivery, the ones i
have been buying come from Wisconsin, they are big as snakes,4 day
delivery time,2005 price was $39.95 2006 price went to $49.95 there
are normaly 50 dozen in the shipment,i have only had 1 shipment that
had a lot of dead ones in it,I called them about it and had replacement
in 2 days.I suggested to them when shipping to FLORIDA to put an extra
cooling pack in the container, and they took the advice, and had no problem
since.

Good deal Kirk, I cant remember what I paid for them but it wasn't too bad . Let me know what the difference is as competition is very healthy. I may have to see if we can get a discount for WIF members. Schoe

A Where I Fish discount would be great, let me know if they take you up on the bait (ha, ha, ha). Maybe they could like that, have a little sponser page or etc. and let them know how big your member base, how new it is, and how rapidly its growing.
I am not going to buy any worms now. I have been doing some price comparison, going to get the best/most worms for the price. Sounds like the 50 dozen huge worms from Wisconsin would be great. If any of these places have a website let me know. I am going to wait till it is closer to the fishing season up here in Iowa, before I buy them. Anyway, I'll be back to this thread for the numbers and addresses of any bait suppliers, and post if that discount works out.
Also, about keeping bulk crawlers alive - I have kept small containers alive for long periods of time (I still have a fresh dozen in the fridge from August). I bought one of those big frabbil containers about the size of a medium cooler and kept some crawlers in their once. They died in the garage. They also didn't do to good in the basement. The container is too big for the fridge. Any suggestions, or what are they shipped in (is it big enough to keep them in the fridge). I also feed them powdered milke, conrstarch, flower, weat germ, farihna, flower, or leaves. I have also tried newspaper and coffee, but I wondered if this altered their flavor (and I am not about to try them myselves) and it any of it seems to work. Also, any good ideas about soil. I tried that shredded paper from frabil (didn't like it, too messy) - is there any potting soil that would be good, loose enough, hold moisture, etc. that anyone has tried?

Kirk, that don't supprise me as this is their off season. I found this place in a Fur Fish and Game book years ago and have bought there ever since.
The months that I have bought them are April through October. I'm sure they will eventually get back to you. Schoe

HEY SCHOE
The price of 500 night crawlers at that place we were talking about is
$33.00 plus ups shipping charge, not a bad deal if the service is good.that
is less than i have been paying, from my supplier, the nice thing about where
i have been ordering from is they are open 24-7-365 days a year.we order
500 a month from them.Night crawlers here in FLORIDA are $3.25 a dozen
at the bait shops,i sell half an order to the fishermen in my neighborhood,
at $1.75 per dozen, that is a big savings to them, and makes my cost very
low.:D

Kirk, like I said before, I have been ordering from this Co. for several years and haven't' had but one incident.I believe it was shippers fault for rough handling as one of the freezer packs broke open and water was released and killed about half of my order. I called them right away and they offered to give a money refund, ship me more free of charge, or whatever else to make it right, can't beat that.
What I usually do when I am going on a trip is to have them ship them to where I am going so I don't have to fool with them at home or along the way.

HEY SCHOE
As much as you travel, thats a good idea to have them shipped where you
are going.when i place an order i send it in on saturday, that way i will
get delivery on wed or thur, and they dont spend a weekend in some
hot warehouse having a melt down.i should have the information i asked
for today or friday.
