I took the grandkids out on the Rainbow River for several hours Sunday. We launched the boat in Dunellon on the Withlacoochee and motored up past the KP hole on the Rainbow. By that time my grandson Nathan had eaten all five of the sandwiches and most of the cheese crackers we had brought for snacks. His Mom tried to feed him before we left but he wasn't hungry. I'm gonna have to get a bigger boat to bring food enough for this growin boy. Luckily his sister Magan eats like a little bird. I caught a bunch of small bass casting 1/32 oz jigs with orange maki "Draginmags"&"Wormi's". These Micro plastics are the ticket on this clear water spring fed river. I was the only one that caught any fish. Nathan caught lots of tree limbs and dock posts and he and Magan swam circles around the boat during most of our trip driftin back down the river. Here's a few pics of the adventure.

I don't worry much with the lizards in that river. ;) Its so full of tubers and kayaks on the weekends the big gators leave or stay hidden. The sherriff boat goes up and down the river all day long. I have a feelin they keep the bigger lizards in that large cooler they carry on the deck.

Pegleg is right, with all the tubers, floaties and drunk people that go down that river, the gators don't even look at ya.

Hushpuppy, I've never seen a gator over four foot in the river. Now there is a bunch of otters in there that are as loopy as the people. We saw at least three family groups of em that day. :D

I see Otters around all the time. I like watchin' them open up shells. I'm glad to see you takin' the grandkids out and learnin' em' about nature. I sure am glad my "aligator grandma" (that's what I used to call her) took me fishin' and lightnin' bug smashin' and all that. Those are memories that I will take to my grave.
