About ten years ago I was fishing with my friends dad on one of the many phosphate pits in central FL. It was getting close to lunch time so we pulled away from the bank and dropped anchor. Just about the time we got the PB&J out the depth finder went crazy. It looked like a school of gator's was under the boat. My friend put down the sandwich and picked up his rod. I refused to unhand my PB&J until I saw him bring about 8 pounds of bass in the boat. Then I picked up my rod and,no lie. I caught a 4 inch bass on a 8 inch worm. He then landed another 6 or 8 pounder. I was gettin' nervous. BAM my turn. I got me one about 6 or 7 pounds. We stayed in that spot for another hour and caught nothing under 6 pounds. When they stopped bitting the boat was a wreck, worms everywhere. I lost my sandwich and broke one of my rods but I dont think I will ever forget that and still have a hard time convincing people that its a true story.....thats why we keep going back.

HEY HUSH PUPPY
I can belive you,we were sitting in the boat on a lake in northern indiana,
FOX LAKE,a clear lake with lots of reeds, when all the sudden a may fly
hatch started and the water started boiling with bass and gills,we ended
up putting 2 top water baits on at the same time ,catching 2 at a time,
it lasted less than hour, but they werent the size you were talking about.
loads of fun,and it never happended to me since,
the bass you were talking about would have been great fun while it lasted,
but i thought 8lb bass in florida were just average size,i catch them up
to 10 lb and take a picture and put them back,is that what you do?

Hey Kirk, I throw all the bass I catch back. And your right 8 pounders are about average for Florida. Just not that many in a row.

HEY HUSH PUPPY
You are right about not that many in a row, when i am really after bass,
i may bust 1 or 2 a week that will go 6 to 8 lb,and i only have 1 that went
10lb this year, what suprised,me was, catching them out of this brackish water,
canel i live on.in my whole fishing life in INDIANA,i have caught 5 bass that
were in the 8 lb range, for up there, thats a mighty fine bass, all were caught
in hot weather on top water baits.down here in florida so far i cant get
1 to hit a top water bait, they will hit the 7 inch culprit worms and live
crawlers,i guess some day when i least expect it,i will have 1 pig out on,
the top water.

I tell you Kirk, I've only had good luck with topwater (buzzbait) at dawn and dusk. But when they bite, they try to kill it. Maybe one day i'll post my topwater worm bass I caught.
