We Have The Best 'Fraid Hole Around ::
I think I'll get ya one this one 4rum....
I'm 'fraid ya got me on this one Soupy.
Here it would be a mud hole that most are afraid to tackle on their ATV. We do have some doozy's.
Oh... ramps wasn't a puzzle... just letting you know they are up. I figger'd you know about ramps. They are a member of the leek family (I think). They are gathered by the sack full here at this time each year. There are whold 'feasts' featuring them. Ramp dinners, are very popular. The volunteer fire dept. my son is in even puts one on as a fund raiser. Usually will have ramp dishes, brown beans, corn bread. One of the most popular ways to fix 'em is just fry 'em up in a skillet of taters. MMMMM mmm.
Pegleg
04-07-2007, 09:24 AM
I remember Ramps. When I was a kid we lived in Pennsylvania for a while. I worked for our neighbor who had milk cows. This time of year the dang cows would eat the ramps and the milk would get turned down because it smelled like onions.

We Have The Best 'Fraid Hole Around ::
A cave or cellar for refuge from a storm. (Notice, there ain't no city folk playin' along with us on this one).
Yep... that was a puzzle for me (Ramps)... I've heard 'em called that before but, it just didn't ring no bells for me. (Had to look it up in my everyday book for dummies) We always called 'em "Leeks".. Reckon that's where ya lost me. And yes...Pegleg, they would screw up a good milk cow... I remember that now.

HOLLAND ???
This is a good 'un
hmmmm.... I had put up a second guess of LARD. Put in there about savin' the cracklin's fer cracklin bread. Don't know what happened to th' post:D
Hey Soupy... you ever have cracklin' bread??? All the fat was taken from a freshly butchered hog, cut into strips about 3-4" inches long by 1 er 2 wide. Then it was run through the sausage mill, ground up like you'd see ground beef in the store. The fat was then put in big pans (dish pans) and the lard was rendered out on the ol' Warm Morning wood cookstove. Used to scare the beejeebers outta me. Two pans at a time usually, 4 or 5 gallon of boiling grease in each... on top of a wood stove... one drop of water in there and bye bye kitchen.
Anyways...... the lard was rendered out leavin' the ground fat (without th fat) and a cup full er so of these little particules of cooked fat was added to the cornbread mix. You ain't lived till you've had cracklin bread!!!
Skins was rendered out too... now imagine a pork rind that measured about 6" er 8" wide, 1/2" thick and up to 2 feet long!!! Why jest one would get you at least half way through Saturday Night 'Rasslin'.:D

Funny thing about the woodburner though.... Worst whoopin' I ever got is when I stuck a kitten in the fire box on one of them stoves....Mom had just started the fire and she said the kitty was about to freeze to death 'cause it was rubbin' up against the legs of that ole stove... Mom was just funnin' with me....But, I was serious... I didn't want my kitty to freeze to death............................................. ..She got it out in time.......

"Go Sand Your Tongue" is the Southern Saying for: :"Stop ! You're talking too much" ! .... Which I'm gonna do for a fw days....I sure some of you will be happy of this.... I'm going to Kentucky Lake Beach Resort to spend time with some "Good" Friends and to do some fishing.
Soupy's Kentucky Korner " Tell Me What It Means " will be closed for a few days....( probably forever). See y'all down the road jack !
