[Sharon]

How many of you write poems but to shy to share? I am one of those people. I have had 2 of my poems published which is something I one day want to get back into doing. One day, when I felt like life was handing me too much to deal with, I came up with this one. Its not the greatest, but it made me think, there is more to life than sometimes we remember. This isnt one that I've had published though. So if you ever forget to smell the roses, coffee or what have you, stop and take a minute to look whats around you. Hope you like this one.

Nature's Shelf

I walk along the silent streets, wondering what paths I may meet.
I look around, silent is the air.
No cars, no birds, no wind is there.
How can this be on such a bright sunny day, to have not a soul wandering the street.
I walk to the lake, I see a slight ripple.
There must be wind to move the seas. Yet I do not feel your gentle breeze.
No clouds above, just clear blue skies, yet the water ripples.
Curious and more curious I have grown. To what could cause the water to flow?
One tiny fish goes swimming by. I gaze at its beauty, swimming so free. I now know there is life, out in the sea.
But why is there no wind, no trickle of breeze?
I sit and I ponder of lifes many questions. Always to busy to notice its splendor.
I felt a light touch, a cool gently breeze. Colorful leaves falling from a near by tree.
The sound of children were apparently clear. Am I just dreaming, or are they really here?
I looked inside myself to see, that all these things, have always been there.
I took the time to stop and see, the wonderous things that now surround me.
Too busy with life, too busy to care, I never realized what was really out there.
I slow myself down now and stop to see, the beauty of life that's all around me.
Take a minute, to see for yourself, theres life abound, upon nature's shelf.

Dear Sharon;

Your poem is wonderfully written. Your style and writing technique are natural and sincere, both marks of the best writers. You handle image, color and motion with ease. If you recieve joy from writing, then make time for it. If you like to share (I hope) there are sites that welcome poets from any stage of advancement.

I write some poetry, I have not tried to publish anything. I just recently started but I do get joy and satisfaction from it.

Like you, I had a desire to write for many years but there was always that voice that said... "who would read"... "what do YOU have to say to anyone"... "what if it's really terrible and folks are polite"... "if you even start something, can you finish it"... (you've already answered that one).

I've written a little now, I've read tons, I strongly urge you to keep writing. Whether it's privately for yourself, or if you'd like I can suggest some sites where you can share, or get critiques.

You quite obviously have a gift, don't waste it.:)

Thanks 4rum, like Ive said, I had 2 published. And I do have them framed here. Couple others I wrote just off the top of my head, when I was in severe back pain, like a knife stabbing me... kind of a dark poem... in fact 2 are dark... and thats really not me, but sometimes you go through some negative emotions put upon you without your consent, and it helped me to write about it in poetry form. Maybe one day Ill write and 'Ode to WIF' and become famous that way! :p

Dear Sharon;

Had a couple of those back pains myself, aspirin or even a chiropractor don't help those much.

The thing about poetry (I think) it is SUPPOSED to reflect our mood. I have silly stuff, dark, childrens, and many studies in form poetry (sonnets, triolet, rime royal, haiku, limerick and others) just for the appreciation of the discipline of the form.

My hope for you is to write what you want, when you want to, when it feels to you that you should. You need not write with the thought of scrutiny by others. Share the ones you want, keep the others to yourself, but these moments should be put down, kept for you own satisfaction, revisited at sometime when the mood strikes, and maybe at sometime made available to your children if no one else.

Writing to some is very personal. Thank you for sharing the one above, and I look forward to seeing more.:)

Thanks again 4rum.. and youre right, it should reflect your mood and what you feel in your heart and mind at the time. I cant just sit and think up stuff, its got to already be there..happening to me or someone close for it to flow onto paper. Its not something you should have to work at, it should just come natural. The two I did have published were written for friends who were going through some difficult times and was hard for them to speak. After giving them the poems I wrote for them, it helped them to open up themselves and talk about what was on their minds. Funny how a few simple words can help someone else open up their own hearts to you. :)
