That's pretty cool. And what would that be used for???

That is used for pellet or other soft baits
If the knot is tied correctly the fish picks up the bait off the tag end line
and when they feel metal and spit it the knot will automatically turn the
hook point into their mouths

Stephen Buss (PiOFi) taught that to my son, Bobby, works great!
