I FISH A LOT FOR RAINBOW AND BROWN TROUT.....

AND I think one of the most underappreciated lures is the rapala minnow.
These lures are the 1st choice for those slick skin fish called trout.
Rapala minnows come in many different styles here is a list and the ways I would use them for trout...

JOINTED MINNOW= I use the jointed style on HOT days, when the water is low. This lure also works well when fish are wary, its action is the lures best feature. THEY range in size from 2"-5 1/4 and have 10 or more colors. My favorite color's are the black and silver or the brown trout lure.

COUNT DOWN= Cast it troll it or jerk it this one here is my favorite rapala. You can fish this lure at what ever depth you chose. Trout like a bump and move retreave, By dragging this lure threw the rocks or against the rough stuff you will slam some trout. The best colors I have found are the Clown faced minnow, and gold and black lure. Sizes 1 1/2-4 3/8 and many colors to pick from.

ORIGINAL FLOATING MINNOW= This is the original one the one we used as a kid. And it will always be the lure in your box with the most stories behind it. So many ways to fish it add weight to put it at the depth you want to fish. Or skip it across the water on hot summer days for big browns. Bottom walk it around shoals and nail a big rainbow. This one is hard to beat for all fish. Sizes 1 1/2 - 7" and any color you can dream of is available...

TAIL DANCER= This is a newer lure and one that has helped me boat some hogs. It has a banana style shape that gives it wide tail action that drives trout wild you can catch the big ones with these. Fish this with a stop and go retrieve and let the good times roll. This lure dives faster than the others and will catch fish but also will hang up on you a lot so be careful.... Sizes 2" - 3 1/2" and 4 or 5 colors to pick from..

This sure will catch a lot of trout, but first thing you will need to do is throw that ultra light out the door and go with some thing with a little back bone to it. I like a 7' or 7' 2" medium rod with a 2500 reel and 6-8# test this will help land the fish and get them out of bad spots easy-er than that little minnow rod they claim is for trout........

I read somewhere that trout will hit just about anything that reflects light. ie. spoons, spinners, and rooster tails. I am a huge fan of Rapala so yes I would definitely use Rapala spinners for trout.

I have got many trout on cow bell rigs with a small rap behind the bells, slow troll over deep water durring the hot days of summer, fish hold in the thermalcline where the water in cool. Best known lakes in my area BadMedicine and Long lakes in Itasca county Mn. Where the Start of the Mississippi River is.
