Was a great weekend for me and friends.
Sat about 5:30 am the dog wakes us up to go potty.
10:00 am drive to cedar river cabin. "in the rain"
At this point i'm thinking of calling it off, but i've been wet before, in more ways than one. LOL Yes i mean behind the ears.
So the misses "missduann" and I get to the cabin in the rain got the Jon boat behind my truck both stuffed with goods. Every thing xcept the kitchen sink.
We unload most everything out of both in the rain. Shoot i even packed up my garage fridge. LOL so it's time to put the boat in because the rain slowed down. so (mark) "soon to be new member" and i proceed to boat ramp and start to put boat in the water. woodn't ya know it it starts to down pour. Yep i get soaked but i wasn't alone so was mark his bro in law and nephue. Guess where "missduann" was yep in the cabin. she's no dumby. a sweat heart she is thats for sure.
So we park the boat again the shore. and start to B.S. about what we are going to do. so we loads up in the truck and head to missduann's bro's pond for "bait" we get there ofcoarse it's still sprinklin.
No problem here just a lil wet, so we get to pond and the nephue decides to feed the fishes. so 1st fish caught was about 12" channel cat. wrong "bait" LOL so we fish shallower and by the dock. Yep it down poured on us agian. I believe we had our showers for the month all in one day. LOL 5 or 6 times we got soaked.
We get "bait" yeah i know giller catfish are bluegill bait if ya cut them in real small chunks. Oh and by the way That rod reel combo works Great Thanks you! so we get back to the cabin and set up to fish. yep you guessed it we set up a tent shelter in the rain.
So about 9 pm we set out on a venture to fish off the bank of the cedar river. with a shelter. about 930 pm we cut the bait and sling out what we thought would be good for channel cats. it wasn't 5 minutes and yep FISH-ON. pulled in a 7 pound "FLAT" not tire either flathead catfish. so mark says darn that'll be the last fish we catch. Guess not he landed a Flat shortly after that. Last fish we caught was at 1 am. I did manage to get pictures of the catches and a few other pics. so the biggest one we caught was at 15 pushing 16 pounds. "The neighber had a scale" Just so the fish weighin in at 5-6 pounds didn't end up being estamated to be pushing 10. If ya know what i mean. All in all was a great weekend and caught a PB flat. I'll see if this doggone puter will co operate with me to attach and send pics. Hope i didn't bore any1.

At least after getting wet you caught some fish. I fished in the rain and came up with 5 walleye between 16 and 20" on the wing dams. Best trip so far this year, but no pictures, mabe next time, Bob.

Bob, good deal on the Walleyes. I haven't been after them in the river for a lot of years but used to chase them quite often in the 70s and 80s. I may start again this fall. Yes they are hard to beat on the table. Schoe

Mississippi is great walleye fishery, back in 80's when we fished tourneys
up in Quad cities the weigh ins had teams that averaged over 10lbs per fish
taken
really great fishing on those wingdams when they are feeding up
Troll crankbaits on the wings an if there is action would anchor up
an then use light rigs an let crawlers and leechs roll slow with current
down into trough at front of wing dams
Channel end of the wing was always best place for big fish, and was always few rods busted cuz there was big flathead up there instead of a walley
