I always fish with livers or live worms, but I was just curious, is there such a thing as a jig or other type of lure for cat fishing? I dont think Ive ever seen one. Is it truly the smell they go after, not the site of a lure? Perhaps a plastic worm would work? Or does it really have to stink?

I haven't caught cats on bare jigs myself, but have heard of them hitting curly tail jigs a lot and have heard of them taking a slow crank bait.
The jigs I've caught them on were tipped w/ wax worm.
Wax worms are "catfish candy" Mike

Biggest flathead I caught took a twister tail when I was fishing for walleyes
and I have read articles where a lot of people that fish the big reservoirs
use deep diving crankbaits to catch them

My favorite bait for eating sized channels are big leechs for larger channels
and flatheads I like chubs in the 3-6 inch range

Ok, like I said, was just curious because I dont think Ive ever seen a lure meant for catfish, but I guess if the feeding frenzy is on, just about anything might work... First bass I caught down here was on a live worm with my ugly stick fishing for cats... so go figure :p
