I was back out on the canal again today. There were carp lying suspended in different places but for the most part they were nosed up to structure.
There were also a few feeding . They were nose down and just the tail tip showing. The attached thumbnail shows a few of them. Mike

Where at on the canal were you fishing, close to your house I take it, If they have spanwed then they are resting up, I have been wanting to fish the canal, But it is so long that it's hard to deside where to go for them. Schoe want's some to smoke up, If you want to catch some for Schoe to smoke up just let me know, I have been looking for some one to fish with and if we get a bunch I think we can get Schoe to take them off our hands.

Jim, The shot I took of the carp resting, was up the canal a ways, but we have plenty right here in the last section of the canal before it empties into the Rock river. Much of this section has mown edges. In fact it is a park so setting up should not be a problem.
As for your opinion that the suspended carp are resting after spawn. This makes a lot of sense. They have been rolling on the canal edges for some time and are probably pretty worn out. :)
Schoe, I did cast out in front of a couple bigguns that were cruising slowly. I was using fireline, and have heard that they are line shy. Besides that fact, they had already seen me and that pretty much ends the story anyway. :icon_rolleyes: I'm not sure I could have handled one anyway with the 12' B n M long rod with logs in the area.
Jim, We'll have to get together some time and have a go at the canal carp and Buffalo fish.
Hmmmmm, WIF rough fish get together????? The kids could remove little gills for entertainment. lol Mike

Post spawn, nose down and cruising carp are usually good signs. Sneak up on them, then freeline canned corn. If your drags works and your line is in good shape, you should be able to land them.
