Well i went and broke down and bought me some of them cat bobbers like the ones catbird was using in KY. Question i have are they going to work with the current we have in our local rivers or are they basicly just good for the lakes?

Guess i'll need a little coaching on how and where to use these buggers. :party0033:

They should work in the rivers, I really like to use bobbers in current for a lot of different reasons
If used right they will let you really pinpoint your bait into structure

Takes practice but it really works good

Think I might have posted bout it, will check around on forum if I didn't will write something up bout how I use bit slip bobbers in current them

Kenny, they take about a 5 oz. sinker to make them stand up. They work fine in current as long as it's not too strong. They work great for floating your bait down in front of a log jamb.

Kenny here is the result of Catbirds log jam tactic. Gonna have to do me some experimenting with them myself this year.

I made some last year, and never got the chance to try them out. I'll post a pic later so you can see mine. It only cost $10 to make 5 of them. I used 1/2 inch PVC with caps, and a Noodle from Wallyworld. I cut the PVC into 10 inch sections, glued ONE cap on(the top part) and then drilled small holes in the caps to be able to run 50lb mono through. I then cut the noodle to fit over the PVC pipe.

Nope, it's something with my computer. Every time I try to add pics I get an error message. I'll re-boot and try again.

I make mine similar to those, a little smaller and I use a foam slip float or clip on float for the core. I round the edge to streamline them a little too.

Nightfisher, great idea on rounding the edges, defiately looks nicer. Does it help with the amount of drag when reeling back in?

Definately helps, but you can still tell that sucker is on there! lol! I think it helps more to minimizing drag in the current. A flat surface is more easily pulled by current than a curved one. By being almost entirely made out of open cell foam, with only the small foam floats as a core it makes them really light weight and easy to cast too.

great ideas guys thanks for shareing. just one question ya know the foam insulater they sell for water pipes w/the slit in it would that work? instead of the noodles? might be cheaper

I think the price total for the whole thing ended up being $10 to make 5 of them (2 that got tossed, and 3 keepers).

I got a couple of these bobbers, at the WIF tourney last yr, havnt really tried em out yet though!!!! also through some of Catmatts seminars, ganna be using just your simple small slip floats.
bought me some of the cheap foam floats off ebay 50 of em for 10bucks. obviously wont work fer river conditions but in backwaters or flooded areas theyll be prime!!!!!
