Yesterday I had the chance to take a long time friend out fishing. Just to fill you in, Carol is his name and his son Chad who is over fighting in Iraq is a long time high school pal. Chad and I grew up fishing all over the area. Before we had cars we fished every little creek and pond our bikes could reach. Chad and I got into all kinds of trouble... I mean we had all kinds of fun together hunting and fishing our youth away. Carol had 2 strokes now and can't get around very good. Since he used to drag me all over the place fishing with Chad and we had many great weekends at his cabin. What I can remember most is that Carol was a "Walleye Man" every thing else was just trash fish. Some of that rubbed off onto me.

When I asked if he'd like to go fishing, he said sure and that he just like to go fish for any thing that would bite came as a shock to me. I'm sure he was just glad to be going again. We started out looking for crappies, and when they would not go, I said the heck with it... Let's go get a Walleye or two.

I was glad when Carol hooked into this one.

We missed a couple more and I got this one...

When that fish of Carols was in the net, all I could do is look to the sky and say "Thank You Lord" What a great way to return the favor of all the years he spent showing me around. Heck we will be doing a lot more Eye chase'n together. Chad comes home from the war in July and we will go take his dad up to the cabin just like the old days and hunt some more eye's.

Those are special memories that you made Kevin, an a great looking eye
what maybe 4-4-1/2??
LOL on the "anything but an eye is trash fish, sure was a time when I felt that way an everything I threw in the water was about eyes, (or crappie if I wanted something to fill a basket)

Thanks for sharing with the WIF family

Looking forward to seeing July's pictures

Good job Kev, I am sure the trip was appreciated by your friends father. Those were some fine looking Walleyes you fellas picked up. I didn't see any baits that you used. What did you catch them on. Schoe

I make my own Lindy rigs, (Long Snell) with a bead and a Leech. It's one thing to call yourself a walleye fisherman around here if all you do is fish at night. It's another if your sitting on one of those well managed Walleye Factorys Like Mille Lacs, Upper Red, Lake of the Woods, Rainy, Some of the great lakes, or like that lake TOI has in his back yard. It's a whole different ball game to go out at high noon in some of these over fished lakes close to home here and find fish.

:character0029: It can drive you crazzy at times.

Kevin, that is great. Sometimes we take forgranted all the things that "our" parents do for us when we were growing up. Being able to return the favor, espescialy with the absence of his son, is probably the best gift he has gotten in a long time.
