I spent 3 days fishing the Bussey Lake backwaters of the Mississippi River. Siltation is a problem there as it is in most river backwaters areas.
As so often is the case, the locals said "you should have been here 2 weeks ago" .:evilgrin0039:
I did catch some decent gills, but certainly not the "braggers". The larger ones were at or slightly over 1/2 lb, and that.was bout as good as they got and not in any good numbers.
The weather was brutal hot and humid.
Very small jigs w/ wax worms and #8 long shank w/dew worm chunk seemed to work best.
The grass and weeds were really thick and spent a lot of time removing it while working the holes in it.
Most were taken in a couple ft. of water ,and the bite was slow.
I didn't keep any as I have enough gill fillets.
I'm looking forward to the spawn coming up in a couple weeks. Mike
