I recently picked up a couple 150 yd. boxes of Power pro Spectra Braid 8 lb. in the new phantom red color on ebay. Yesterday I spooled up my Shimano sonora 1000 with it.
I gave it a pretty good afternoon test at a local strip mine yesterday. It sure worked well for me . The water was crystal clear compared to what I am used to.I could see the bottom pretty clear to 8 ft. The gills didn't seem to shy from it at all, and seemed to hold a knot well.
Just thought I would share this short test for a product that worked well for me this first time out. Mike

Capt. Kirk, 8 lb Power Pro is .005 and they claim mono equivalent is 1 lb. They list U.S. sizes as 8,10,15,20,30,40,50.65,80,100,150,200,and 250.lb.test. That should cover most peoples needs, lol
I failed to mention that I put this line on a light action BPS Micro Lite spin-fly 4 pc travle rod. Since this line has no noticeable stretch, a simple twitch of the rod tip sets the hook well without ripping lips:evilgrin0039:.
Seems like good stuff . Mike
I have used power pro green for years, the color seems to fade quickly. I tried the red last november and the color has remained on/in the line. I am in the process of changing over to the red. I have it in 15lb, 50lb, and 65lb.
For first time users, it is an adjustment getting used to the "no stretch". In the higher test, don't forget to use a shock leader.

Tee, Acording to the info. in the line box, this line will not retain color perminatly. They advise using color markers to get the color back.
I have used Berkley Fireline in #8 Blaze Green for some time. It also seems to loose come color over time.
It must be the nature of the beast with these so called "superlines"
It will be interesting to see if I will need to cut off a couple feet of Power Pro line from time to time due to fraying like I did with Fireline.:confused0024: Time will tell. lol I imagine there are fans of both and some that don't care for either.Mike

Where are you guys getting this line? I want to give it a try, I have been using red mono for some time with good success.
The reason the color fades is the fact that the "dye" doesn't penetrate the fibers, it just coats it. You will have to trim back a few feet occasionally (my experience).
I have tried most of the other brands, and havve been satisfied with all.
Power pro is much easier for me to get in my area.

i buy it in the big 1000 yd spools......use 30lb fer bass/walleye on all but 2 of my spinning rods now.......giller......i havent had as much of a problem with power pro as fireline with wear.still happens, specially bouncin jigs/cranks on the rocks fer walleye but not near as quick......when i git my reels i always git ones with extra spools, when the line starts ta git frayed or worn i take the spool off ,put the spare on an transfer the line to the new spool.line on the bottom of ones now at the top of the other.
