Screen

Have you ever wondered how members choose their handle?

I will start it out!
My handle is Screen because of the business I'm in -

I know why Schoe is Schoe but why is Catbird, Catbird?

So join in and let me know how you choose yours!

How about Rainman Screen? There ought to be a good story behind that name. By the way I will need another 100 hats when I get home after April 1st. I will be leaving for a trip to Ky. lake on the 12th or 13th.of April and they make good hand outs. Schoe

Rainman4u2
02-05-2006, 10:20 PM
OK Screen, when I was in High School, a bunch of the guys started calling me Rainman, because my first name is Raymond. It's a crappy movie reference, but I use it now for handles/screen names. The 4u2 is just added to make me different.:D

My real name is Tommy, so T is kinda a no brainer... or so I thought. The way it is spelled is where the story is.
When I was a paramedic @ Grady (Atlanta, GA) everybody called me T cause there were several of us whose real name was some form of Thomas.

My partner and I brought a patient in who was approaching the point of "shaking hands with Jesus" from a large caliber gunshot wound to the chest from some punk-@$# doing a drive-by at the wrong house, who happened to be black. At somepoint while both my partner and myself along with the trauma team were working on the patient, covered in blood, the unit secretary, who was generally rude, obnoxious, and *****y, decided that I had an arrogant attitude and was racist.

She felt that I should be writtren up and she needed to do it. So she proceded to walk in the Trauma room during this chaos and said, " yo pardna done told me you name is T, now how do ya spells it?".

Never one to turn down the opportunity to be "written up" I looked directly at her and told her "capital T E E". Needless to say that the name on the write up she filled out was for Capital Tee.

Stump Bumper

I named my boat " the Stump Bumper" because I sure have bumped my way through alot of submerged tree trunks, stumps and logs to get to where the fish are. I just kept the handle....Ray

Environmentor
02-09-2006, 09:16 PM
Didn't get the internet till about 5 years ago, and didn't know a thing about the internet. Just finished my first year of college at the time. Originally signed up as a fishery biology or icthyology major, but changed to an environmental science major because I became a conservationist/environmentalist. My mom said we were getting AOL and we weren't going to be allowed to change our screennames ('cause she wouldn't allow us). I wanted to have "environment" but it was taken. I knew more about environmental science then even some instructors. Started a env. campus organization. Just knew a lot about env. sci. People kept coming to me for env. sci. help or information. Figured I was kind of an env. sci. "mentor" or teacher. Decided to go with "environment" "mentor" or "environmentor". Name stuck, now I use it everywhere I can, even though I ended up changing my major to General Biology.

Catbird
02-09-2006, 09:26 PM
Catbird was the name I gave my first boat, a 1970 Mustang tri-hull. I use it as a nickname and is also the name of my present boat. Actually, I guess the new boat should be Catbird III...lol

You are right about that Screen, I am really glad you started this thread. Mine is very easy to figure out, first half of last name.
Since this web site is family oriented I certainly couldn't use one of the names I have been called in the past. Schoe

hushpuppy
02-11-2006, 11:31 PM
Well my real nick-name is Big dawg and my buddies call me Dawg. When I was informed of this site and was asked for a handle I couldn't think of nothin' beter. But I can say that Hushpuppy's are on my mind when the fishin' day is done...lol

p.s. this was a good idea for a thread.

Ol' Man
02-12-2006, 11:09 AM
The Mrs. calls me her "Ol' Man ", my kids call me their "Ol' Man", the neighbors refer to me as "that silly Ol' Man" what other choice do I have...

What they say: Developed after years of research What they mean: Discovered by pure accident.

My old fishing partner gave me my handle because of the way I fish logjambs. He would lose his rigs about ten times to my one.Taught some others my method, and they did well with it.Called him Norigs, and he used to counter by calling me Nosnag.

Well, after reading everyone else's stories mine is bland. When I was little my grandmother loved to go fishing all the time. She hates swimming, but she loved to fish! Anyway, she used to call me her little fishing buddy. So...

She doesn't get to go much any more, but we try to take her every chance we get. She's moving on 80 and has had heart problems. I consider fishing her therapy. :)

Slingblade

Go Figure ! You guys know I'm from KY so I'm a little slower than the others getting here!.....

The nickname "Soupy", the guys as old or older than me know where this name came from... With the last name of "Sale".. Played baseball in school worked in the coalmines all my life with the last name of "Sale" Nobody ever says "Sale" it's always "SALES" So, hince the nickname "Soupy Sales". In school they called my older brother "Big" Soupy and me Little Soupy or Soupy Jr. Now they are all gone so that leaves me as being just Soupy ! To the young'uns on here Soupy Sayles use to be a TV show in the 50's (remember "Fang")
