In late spring I was reporting quite a few carp in our local canal laying idle just under the surface.
Yesterday, I and my grandson Brandon stopped by Prophetstown, IL park. There is a small creek there that empties into the Rock River. It has some current. It was clear and full of carp laying idle just under the surface. Some were fair sized, but none had any interest in sweet corn tossed loose or on the hook.
Was there another spawn that they would be resting from? :confused0024:Mike

not sure about that, I camp just up river past lyndon along the river, we have a small eddy in front of our camper and there is tons of carp out there and has been for quite some time now, been really picky lately, snagged one last weekend on (Rock River Fly Fishing)...lol thats what we call it down there, just a treble hook with some marshmallow. float it right down to there mouth,
Cought some nice gills out of that eddy to there giller, first time ive seen them down there, we have a small creek there as well. and fished that alot in spring for gills.

Maybe they were resting with there belts undone digesting a big meal just cooling it in a pod burping and thinking "I couldn't eat anther bite,
I have seen them along the shore resting under the shade of overhanging brush snuggled up next to some logs in about one foot of water two or three feet off shore and as long as they could see me they didn't move or take bait unless I got too close then they would move to deeper water.

Jim, I can fully understand the full belly thing. Sort of like recovering from a meal that Shoe worked his skills on. Joe's pork butt comes to mind also:party0011:
This brutal heat is enough to stress anything. Not often I hear my 13 yr. old grandson agree it is too hot to fish for long.
We just got another rain. Hope they got a little relief.
Joe, Doing fine here. Been busy chasing gills and trying to get some gar interested in some nylon rope lures I and the grandson tied up.:confused0024: No takers yet, they may very well be stressed out too. Mike

I'd enjoy an outing on the canal when time permits. Right now I am getting things together for a 3 generation Searl trip to S. Iowa for some float tube gilling. My grandsons, my son ,and I, are going to try to make it to Belva Deer next week.
Joe I hadn't heard of hard baits for carp. Sounds neat!!!!! mike
