Wow its hot and bait is every were, but think about how hard it was to catch bait last winter.
For the next few months bait is at its easiest to catch but when winter hits that's when bait goes deep and gets pretty tuff to catch and you can get pretty wet getting it.
Yea I know frozen bait is not your first choice but in the winter it sure is nice to just put some bait in the boat and not worry about that darn net.
O.K. here are just a few tips to help you out...................
1st-- This is your best bet take your bait fish and dry them with some paper towels then use a vacuum sealer and suck out all the air. This method works great it will keep your bait as fresh as you can make old bait.
2nd-- This one here is my own creation and I think it works you try it and see if it works for you. Buy some dirt cheap garlic salt (all save brand 1$) dry off the bait place in a plastic bag (or vac seal bag) put a ton of the garlic salt on it. shake it up to cover all the bait then freeze. This worked well for me last winter. The garlic salt dries the bait out and gives it that extra scent that my help you catch the big one.
3rd-- The old jar of dried shad trick this works great but the smell can knock you out.. Take shad and place them head down in a old pickle jar, place them in a circle around the jar until you cant stack them in there any more. Then take rock salt and cover the shad with the salt. Place the jar in a cool dark place this is some good stuff.
4th--Shad guts one of the best baits for winter. This is easy to do cut the gut out of the shad, this is best done wile fishing and put the guts in a container and then on ice.Use the bait fish now and freeze the guts for winter. Shad guts work well on a treble hook.
All of these baits will work but if you can catch fresh use it, if you cant use this and good luck..
