All the neighborhood kids gettin' together in one of the neighbor's "Big" yards for Saturday mornin' football game or baseball game but, I guess that where some people differ. you just don't see that kind of stuff anymore.....Now-a-days ifin' you get more than ten kids together, it's some kind of video game "sale" going on someplace or a riot.

Great thread Soups!
I have a real problem with the amount of time the kids spend on Video games
Lately with my back the way it has been have not been getting out near as much fishing as I would like to
an they are burning up their eyes in front of the TV
I remember Kick the Can, Hide an Seek an other things along with the football an baseball
We lived on a "dead end" an that one block where we were after supper in summertime would be bout 15 of us
out there every night running till parents called us into the house again
Don't see that kinda thing much anymore

Kick-The-Can, Hide-and -Go Seek! I remember games like that.....We even had Hide-The-Belt......Guess that was just one we came up with,'cause ya don't hear many people talkin' about that one.....Remember sayin' " Your getting warmer, warmer, warmer and then runnin' like hell when they found the belt, 'cause when they found it they got to hit somebody else with it and then they got to go hide the belt .
Going out in a fresh plowed corn field and playing "War" with dirt clods...still got knots on my head from that....scars too....
Then on Saturday night when we got a little older .....it was..... SPIN THE BOTTLE ! Now, that game I could get use to...
The old High School Football games..I use to go to them with my mom......Dad was always too drunk to go. I didn't play at the time I was only 8 or 9 but, loved to watch them.....Even remember our old school colors.... Orange and Black ! The Sturgis Bears...Damn, that was a long time ago...
Even remember playing Fort Apache and Combat.....or watchin' the bigger boys play.... I didn't want to get my Davy Crocket outfit dirty......Yes...you heard me.... I even had the "COON SKIN CAP" ! I still have the Davey Crocket A&W ROOTBEER mug I got when I was 3 and still today A&W will fill it up for free when I take it in to them.....But, we don't have any A&W Rootbeer places around anymore.

We still have A&W here that has been in same family for over 50 years, used to be we all
went to drive in on Coney nites when Coney Dogs was a nickle (in fact on 50th anni couple years ago they sold 5 cent coneys an you would not believe the lines!)
That A&W still makes the best fried chicken (broasted) I have ever tasted!
Combat was one we played, used to play Knights of Round Table using indian gum cane
that made great swords an spears an did not do too much damage
Lived right on edge of town with Bean field an timber behind the house
Neighbors boarded horses an the kids had a sheep named Arnold that was a pet an
ran the neighborhood till it got too big
Was great times for sure
Might have been named for Arnold Ziffle (Green Acres).

I hate to say it but you're right Soupy. I honestly cannot stand to sit and play video games for more than a few minutes, it's just not any fun. I would love to go out and play football with some of my friends but half of them don't get outside for more than an hour every day.....pretty sad...
