Well, Sharon mentioned Beanie Hats with the propellers an the Secret msg
compartments
When I sit back an think bout my favorite toys, I gotta say that it was probably King ZOR
He was a Dragon with wheels, an a segmented tail that had a target about 3 inches around on the end of it
When you turned him on he rolled around the room an "roared" an when you shot him in the tail, he turned in the direction you shot him from an shot
soft plastic balls out you while his eyes flashed an he roared
I must've been bout 8 or 9 but King Zor stands out in my mind every time I
think bout the "coolest" toys I ever had

If you still had that old Barbie would be worth a fortune wouldn't it??
I love watching that antiques roadshow an seeing the old dolls an toys that show up
Some of them, especially the old cast iron stuff is really amazing as well as valuable
My grandpa had a bunch of old banks and cast iron toys from the late 1800's
that my Aunt got, I used to play with when I was staying at the farm during the summer months, wish I had pics of them

LOL moi?? what did I do lol. I loved my tonka trucks guess I never outgrew them lolol.
Guess it would have to be 'cap busters'. That was the name of the cowboy shoot em up replica pistols. They took rolls of "BANG" caps. I developed a love of guns early on... was doing minor repairs (that's a polite word for it) by the age of nine and had my own subscription to Outdoor Life by then too. If any of you remember... Pat McManus did a humor story for them each month... it is my hardest task NOT to plagarize this wonderful humorist... he was a favorite.

When us kids where little we spent alot of time at our Grandpaws cattle auction barn. We played cowboys with cap guns and even the girls learned to throw a rope. There wasn't a dog,cat or kid that hadn't been roped at least once. The only thing that we didn't rope was dad's billy goat. He was so mean that we had to hide from him. We didn't have many store bought toys so we built forts out of sticks and any thing else we could scrounge. We used our imaginations alot. I think the kids today would benefit from inventing games like we did in the day.
I guess we were kind of lucky in a way. Most kids wish for a pony and never get one. Being raised around the cattle and horse business all the kids in our family had horses and pony's and learned to ride as soon as we could walk.
Hey Pegleg...
We made toys too... break a corn cob off, stick two feathers into the soft pith in the middle and you had the predecessor of "Lawn Jarts".
A flat stick (like a piece of yardstick) with a hole in the end and a string tied on was a "Buffalo Bone". Whirled 'round and 'round at the end of the string it made a humming noise (like in Crocodile Dundee). Notches could be cut along the edges to make a different tone.
Find the biggest button you could... loop string through two holes... stick your fingers through the ends of the loop with the button in the center. Wind 'er up and pull your hands apart. The button spins and rewinds itself... spent hours playing with this when I was young.
Then there was the throwing kind of tops.
String activated 'mechanical' men.
And one of my summertime favorites... strip one single strand from embroidery thread (need very light weight string)... then catch yourself a June Bug. Loop string to one hind leg and let him fly. We used to have full blown competitions. ... hmmmmm.... better shet up, 'fore I'm up there with Michael Vick:icon_biggrin:

I loved the Tonka trucks in the sandbox we had out in the country when I was little. I could level a road with that little grater....

One of the more unusual toys I used as a kid was a wood lath with a short cross piece nailed on the end. It was used to push a metal hoop along. When we went to grandma's in town on Sat. night I would run all over pushing that hoop on the smooth streets.:party0011::party0011:
Out on the farm, a wet piece of corn cob jammed down on a willow stick gave us kids lots of throwing power. My older brother left lots of bruises on me from those things. (ouch) lol Mike

LOL Mike
We used to use the "indian gum" reeds for throwing spears an stuff, never thought of the corn cobs
That would sting a tad bit
Remember a few "cow patty fights" at my friends farm
Used to use hay bales as forts and go out with wagons an gather "ammunition"
Can still remember the look on my mom's face first time she saw us come home after one of those epic battles! :confused0068:

We didn't have a lot of toys when I was growing up. One of my fondest memories was playing with everyone's shoes and acting like they were cars...lol After we got a few hot wheels, we tore up the back yard with our hands making dirt roads.

I remember at home, my favorite toy was a stuffed "Jako" doll my mom had made *(back when I was 5 or 6)*. At grandma's farm, 2 toys really stand out. A old spoon and an old coffee pot that I used to play in the shale driveway, and an old set of steel wagon wheels on an axle. I pushed that axle all over that farm.
