It's middle August here in south east Alabama, and during the day, or even early in the morning, it's hottern haites. What I've been doin' here lately is around 8:00 at night, I'm goin' around the piers on Mobile Bay that have lights and absolutly wearin' the white and speckled trout out, occasionaly, I'll catch a big Bull Redfish. In the past the only bait that I would ever use for trout fishing or redfishing was live bait, shrimp being the #1 choice, small finger mullet or small croakers being #2 choice. To me, before last summer, using live bait just made sense to me, use for bait what the fish actually eat. Well, one afternoon while at the bait and tackle shop to get some live shrimp, they were out! So this old timer showed me a little artificial "Glass Minnow" and says to me, "try this with a little crappie jig". I did just that, and caught more white and speckled trout than I ever have. This glass minnow is about an inch and 7/8 long, about as big around as a pencil at the head and tapers down to a little split tail. Since then, I've caught just about everything there is to catch around these parts with it. White trout, Specs, flounder, Redfish, Stripped Bass, Crappie even Large mouth bass. It's been awesome! In fact, tonight, I'm taking a buddy fishin', he's using one of my trout poles and I'm using a video camera. Hopefully I'll post another thread tommorrow with a link to the video! If anybody knows of any other really good artificial bait for White and Speckled trout, please let me know.
