If it has scales it's bait!

Not in Ohio you can't use them for bait. Also ramrod being a novice stick with cut bait. I do like bass fishing. I try to do it in the summer a bit. I cast around while I'm carp shooting. Get both in one trip....lol.

Desperado, sorry but you are wrong. I contacted ODNR myself and bass can be used for bait as long an it is of legal size and caught with hook and line.

Bass fishing is a great sport, along with all other species of fish. Before
moving from Indiana,I have caught 5 bass in the 8lb range, which is a nice
bass for that area of the country, all were photograghed and REALEASED,
since moving to Florida i have caught bass in the 10 lb range which is
just a medium size bass for florida, also took pictures and REALEASED.
no matter what you fish for ,enjoy your time outdoors, look around you
and check out what mother nature has provided for you, take good care
of her,so our future generations can enjoy what we have experienced.

If you want to catch bass the best all year all round bait is plastics in my opinion.

HEY HUSH PUPPY
I use 7 inch culprit worms most of the time, but when it gets tough i
go to my back up bait, that is night crawlers hooked in about the same
way as the artifical ones, using a bait keeper hook with the point not
exposed, and bumped gently across the bottom, around a lot of cover if
they dont want them, some BIG GILL or REDEAR will suck it in.

I don't use much live bait. I like trickin' em into bitting. I use a 6 1/2" zoom in junebug or tequilla w/ green flk. When it starts to get cool I switch to a 4 1/2" same color and slow my retreave a little.

HEY HUSH PUPPY
When the water cools they do seem to prefer a smaller bait, some thing
that they dont have to put much effort in to catch, the slow retrive is
a must when fishing cooler water. on the culprit worms the colors that i
use age black, purple, rootbeer, and gray with a silver stripe.in the brackish
water i have you never know whats going to hit,one of my neighbors
took a tarpon around 15 lb on an artifical worm.what are the odds on that
happening?

hey kirk, the best colors i have found for most of the waters around here for bass are tequilla sunrise, motor oil and the go to color june bug if they are there that can't resist it they love these colors in a culprit. as far as top water you gotta try a 4" blue banga lure crank bait i've caught scores of bass off of them...good luck hope this info helps ya out...

Topwater of choice for me is a buzz bait. White on a clear day and chartruese on a cloudy day. Second, dont forget that a spinnerbait in the cypress knees is something to behold.
big country
12-14-2005, 08:44 PM
i never really had any luck on those buzz baits..but if they work for you thats great stick with what ya know and what ya have confidence in..believe it or not i caught my biggest basson a beatle spin fishing for bream on the hillsborough river...

Hey Kentucky357,
I've been Bass Fishing for years now, but I have to do it for the bank because I don't own a boat. But People always say that if I did, I would do even better that I'm doing now, because now I'm not having a problem finding the Bass at all.:D

last sunday i caught between 25 and 30 all over 12 " the biggest two were 24 and 24 1/2". caught them at kickapoo state park (along with a bunch of crappie) its all strip pits really clear water and fairly deep.when the waters below 50 degrees i stay with small swimbaits 2-3" storm baits are my favorites, amedium size husky jerk and a3 1/2 " tube. i have a tube, spinnerbait, shallow shad rap or floating rattle trap on year round when the water temps over 50. i got out of fishing worms till this year when i started teaching my oldest boy how to use them. except for night fishing that is then i use the 12" purple shad and a 12ought hook. another good one if weve got ice is a reef runner cicada.its a blade bait but i modify it to get better action and hookups. its dynamite on everything in warmer water from catfish to walleye. you guys down in florida ever try the floating rattle trap or shallow shad rap?nobody around here uses them just curious?
big country
01-14-2006, 06:57 PM
i've tried the rattle trap but i wasn't impressed with it to much so i don't use it anymore...

HEY EVERY BODY
I am sure glad to see we have some bass fishermen aboard.First i have to
awnser a questtion from BIG COUNTRY about SAN DEIGO,the destroyer
that i was on was based in SAN DEIGO,and to awnser your question about
did i ever visit T.J.,Let me ask you a question is the POPE CATHOLIC?Now
with that question taken care of,i have a question for BIG COUNTRY &
HUSH PUPPY,some time after the TURKEY CREEK CATFISH RODEO,Does
a BASS ROUND UP on TURKEY CREEK.or some other near by lake or river
get your juices flowing? No door prizes,no raffle, just pay your money and
take your chance at coming out on top, could pay 3 places, and have a
BIG BASS pot,pay out just like we are going to do on the CATFISH RODEO,
based on the amount of entrys, and all fish weighed in and realesed, i think
we could have a great turn out,we could take all this talk to the tournament
and seperate the men from the boys!!!If this idea rings your bell, start
giving me some input on this, and we can come up with a plan.

hell yeah, but we would have to get a permit fer this one right?
plus i think we could come up with another lake pretty easy for this one...
catch and release optional?
hey hushpuppy which lake would you prefer?
turkey creek
pasadena
groveland
saddle creek
teneroc
thonotosassa
manatee
tarpon springs
kissimme
toho
by pass canal(not a lot of fishing pressure)
the hillsbrough river
dead river( if you got a pond jumper )
alafai river
just to name a few??????

HEY BIG COUNTRY
I have all the information as far as getting a permit.its no big deal.RAY
and both checked about having a permit for our tournament,so i know
who to contact. The main thing is to see how many entrys we could
possibley get and where to have it.They have one about every month
on LAKE TARPON,and the report has not been very good so far.all you
local bass fishermen pick out a few choices, where its not trolling motor
only, and we can vote on one,it dont matter to me,i can catch bass out
of a septic tank.:p Also will we make it artifical bait or live bait or both?
capt.kirk

You gotta be kiddin' me. Sign me up RIGHT NOW. tenaroc would be my first choice for a small gathering, All lakes included in that managment system are pretty good. Thonosasa would be my next. I would keep away from the chain lakes due to stress and pressure. But any lake is fine by me. Let me know when Ya'll want to do this.

HEY HUSH PUPPY
Check around and see who may be interested, and we can put it
together pretty quick after we get finished with theTURKEY CREEK RODEO.
Aritifical bait would be fine,we will have to get together and pick a place
to have it first,we would also have to figure out the entry fee,and collect
it up front, the way i understand it,that it depends on how many entrys
there are as to what the permit charge is.EXAMPLE on up to 50 entrys
at LAKE TARPON it is $50,00,the more entrys the more the charge,i got
that info from a sign at that lake,it is probably the same on all
state run lakes,CAPT LENNY,from TARPON TOMS BAIT & is a guide on that
lake and has tournaments all the time,i can get all the info on fees from him.
i can put the wheels in motion, and have all the info ahead of time, but,i
dont want to start anything till we get the TURKEY CREEK CATFISH RODEO
behind us.If we have all our ducks lined up we wont have to deal with all
the problems, that we had getting that one on the right track,THANKS
TO SCHOE and his support.:)

Hey Kirk, it's just south of lake kissimmi on lake walk in the water road. It's a very good lake to fish and is big enough for several hundred boats. I think It's Osceola co.
