Somebody told me that this would be a good place to post some of my secrets about keepin' your shad and herrin' fresh.....
Old boy told me about this a few years back and I never did try it until now....After spendin' a couple months pay on everythig else , salts, honey, just about anything you can think of... I finally tried this....
To keep your shad and or herring fresh... Take one gal. size ziplock bag and pour you some CORN MEAL (yeller or white) (but "not" self risin') 'bout half bag full.. Depends how many shad and or herrin' you gonna put in that bag.....

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p115/Soupy_1us/Fishing/IMG_25791.jpgNotice ,I used Martha White's Corn Meal... Not 'cause of Martha White but, 'cause it's cheap.

Put your shad and or herrin' in there with that corn meal ( yeller or white) Shake it up real good, zip it closed and putin the frig....

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p115/Soupy_1us/Fishing/IMG_25811.jpg and I hope your shad is bigger than these here I got ....

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p115/Soupy_1us/Fishing/IMG_25771.jpgThis here is what I caught on herrin' after being bagged for 6 days..... The big'un....not them little things....
Your shad and or herrin' will get as tough as leather but, will bleed when you cut 'em.

And that's a tip for today from ole Soup's Tackle Box!

PS....Tim told me to write this .

Revised and updated to on "Curing Shad and Skipjacks or other netted bait fish"

DON'T ! BY ALL MEANS USE "MARTHA WHITE'S "WHITE" CORN MEAL

It didn't work.......:confused0056: and it STINNNNNNNNNKS after four days...

As far as the yeller corn meal goes.... I got 9 days on my Herrin' before they started gettin' little soft......WITHOUT FREEZIN'
