Since it has been a while since I've gone fishing, i'd say my funnest fish was the catfish I caught pond fishing this past weekend. Nothing more than a 2-3 lb'er, but it was a fun catch to bring in, I needed help from my dad since my reel broke and the fish took off halfway across the pond!

HEY ANNIE
The longer you fish the,the more funny storys will pop up,trust me i have
been at it about 60 of my 65years,and i could write a book on funny things
that have happened to me and my fishing friends, right now i have to go eat
my grits, but i will be back with a story or two when you least expect it.if
you are having a bad day at work,a laugh just might be what you need to
brighten up your day.

i'd have to say my funnest fish was a 10 jack crevelle i caught in the tampa bay this fish took me 20 minutes to land on 40 pound test and a rod and reel that could pull a v.w. bug.....

Well how long you been fishing Annie, because Capt. Kirk is right. The longer you fish, the more you get (plus if anyone is a dullard like me, they get all kinds of great stories)! I am kind of like Bill Dance in this way. For example, once while fishing I cast the end of my 2 piece pole off into the Mississippi. A few weeks latter during highwater, there it was still sticking there despite the current. Once, I anchored my boat the wrong way on the Mississippi's heavy current (which is not only stupid, but dangerous) - I swear I will never do that again. I casted the tip of my favorite 2 piece pole into a lake (never did get that part back).

Anyway, as far as my funniest fish goes, I really don't know. Once, while working for the DNR they had caught a freshwater eel that they wanted to keep, but I picked it up (slippery as an eel is right) the thing squirted out of my hands and made a dash for the river. Luckily they caught it just in time. I have also caught some very large carp, and the people that were there with me were scared to touch it and get it out of the water (once, when younger I was scared to grab a large flathead that I had caught). I also had carp strip some ultralight reels of my line. Anyway, I am sure there are some more stories, I just have to remember them.

My favorite fish is that first fish of the season (since I only fish during half of the year). So, after the long cold fall/winter, that first fish I catch is so great. Usually, it is just some little panfish, like a 2" green-sunfish or something, but it is always the fish I picture/remeber the whole season long, despite the size.

Environmentor, I know the feeling. First fish I caught last year was a nice sized rock bass, one of the bigger ones I had ever caught. Nothing impressive though, about 6", but got a couple fillets off it. I can still remember the first fish I caught in '04, unfortunately it was about a two pound sheephead (not my favorite fish) but like all sheephead it fought pretty good.

The funniest experience I had was up at this farm-type fish pond at a camp/RV site. They provide these long poles with fishing line tied (literally) to the end. A small hook and no lure. It was crazy. The fish jumped on the line and nearly on the bank! Once I jerked the pole and it, fish and all flew out of the water, over my head and onto the bank. I was so startled I dropped the pole and everyone I was with laughed and took pics. Like I said, crazy.

That is crazy. How big were the fish in there?

They were from 6-10" mostly, though the poundage was nearly nothing. You could either catch them and have them cleaned or throw them back in. We ended up throwing most back. It was almost as crazy as seeing some catfish jump nearly in the boat when we were fishing Percy Priest lake near Nashville, TN.

my funnest fish that I ever hooked lasted all of 3 or 4 seconds
me, my sister & nephew, Ken (my friend/brother) and his now exgirlfriend were fishing at the skyway pier, at the time Ken didnt have any tackle, so he was using some of mine and I ended up with a zebco 33, I hooked a small saltwater catfish and had it at the top of the water and two blacktip sharks came after it, so me being "Me" I kept bobbing that poor lil catfish on the water, the largest of the two sharks (about 5 foot long) turned and ate that fish like bass on a shiner lol well, the line got pulled off with a loud squeal for a couple of seconds and then that PING as the line snapped.
It was short but fun :D
The bad thing is, I have gone and fished for sharks with the proper rigs and have yet to even hook one...

Wyndigo, that is FUNNY. I can picture you hanging off the pier dangling the fish and say "come get him". It just goes to show just what us fishers will do for entertainment. LOL! It beats my dropping the pole thinking one of the dang fish were coming out to eat me. ;-)

Back a few years ago my Dad and I went fishing for Tilefish on a headboat in Mass.Water was so deep that they gave us the smaller coffee cans filled with concrete for weights. They rig them with a light line so they break off when you set your hook.
Well right off I got a bite and hooked whatever it was that grabbed the bait. After reeling in forever it seemed,I got the fish to the surface and the mate gaffed it and brought it aboard. Now I do'nt know if anyone knows what a wolf fish is so I'll try to explain it to you.The wolf fish is a type of angler fish.It has a antenna on top of its head, and a thing that looks like a pink worm attached to it.Like the angler fish it is 70% head and a ridiculously small
short body.Difference between the two is the wolf fish Has a mouth full of long needle like teeth from 1 1/2 to 3" long.Ugly as your worst nightmare.
Back to the story. The mate swung it onto the deck and because I brought it up so fast the bladder was protruding from it's mouth. It thrashed about and while trying to close its mouth it punctured the air bladder with its teeth with a really loud "pop". Well with this, the whole area around me was evacuated by every fisherman within 20 feet from where it lay on the deck.I have to admit that that included myself.I swear some of the men even screamed like little girls. I laughed so hard that tears were coming from my eyes.I do have to say that this was and still is the ugliest fish I have ever seen.It was sure ugly enough to have everyone saying that they hoped that one would'nt take their tackle .
The mate unhooked it and asked me if he could keep it after me telling him that I would'nt be able to ever eat something that gross. He said that they were tasty fare.I told him he was welcome to it.My guess would be that it weighed around ten pounds, but if the body was in scale with that head it would be a fish around fifty lbs. or more.
