It was Oct 05/2007 5:30 in the AM.
Boat was loaded , clothes packed and in the truck....Drinked my last cup of Kentucky coffee for a while...
We got on the road.
We new it was going to be a long trip but, we have been looking forward to it for a day or two....Going up there to do some fishin' and to meet the boys and girls of WIF again....Knowin' all the time it was gonna be fun !
Motel room was waitin' for us and a good thing too.... After gettin' lost we decided to go on out to the lake.
After an uneventful 300 mile drive we made it to the Clinton,Ill Lake . The camp's name was Mascoutin or something like that... We pulled right up to the office and I went in to see what was gonin' on....
Nuttin'.....nobody had gotten there yet....300 miles and we were the first ones there.
The young lady told us to just go pick out a spot and check in with the "Park Host" later. So we did.
After about an hour or so I was startin' to worry about some of the other members that was suppose to be there. So I got on the cell pahone and started callin'.
First I talked to Schoe, and then I talked to Schoe again......Later, I talked to Schoe again, wonderin ifin' he was gonna be leavin' his house soon.
Anyhow I knew there were s'more guys on the road so I called Gofish....Ten minutes out....Great ! We weren't gonna be the only ones there ...
Gofish finally gets there and we say our howdies and started waitin s'more.
Well, finally we (the wife and I) decided it was time for us to go check in our motel room, but, first me and Gofish had to go see the "PARK HOST" to let him know where we were and how many camp sites we had....
This is where it gets better.....
"CAMP HOST"... The name of this job should have told us somethin' to start with....
And when me and Gofish got to the "Camp Host's trailer I think he knew right off that his day had just gotten worse.
The "Camp Host" met us with a big smile.... And ask how we were doin' and how many was in our party.....
Well, we didn't know how many was gonna be there but, we did know we wanted two camp sites....One for the motor home and one to park the boat trailers on....
Well, this conversation went to hell from here......
The "Camp Host" told us that we couldn't use the sites like that..... We had to have
"Livin' Establishments" on the sites.....Now, when you're talkin' to a couple of Rednecks like me and gofish, what do you mean by "Livin Establishments" ... To us a sleepin' bag throwed on the ground was "Livin' Establishments" but, nope this weren't gonna work for this "Camp Host".. He says we had to have a camper, tents or something like that for our "Livin' Establishments"..
Well, I told him that ifin' we paid for the spots, what difference did it make what we slept in..... He says that was the "Rules" . This is when it got better..... Gofish's redneck started showin' then...... He tells the "Camp Host" that he had a canopy that he was goin' to put up.......Nope ... accordin' to this "Camp Hoat" that weren't good enuff ! Now, this ain't good to tell a couple of "Good Ole Boys" like me and Joe that we couldn't sleep in a canopy, hell that was like tellin' us we weren't good enuff to stay in his park ! Then he ( the "Camp Host") says it again... You Have Got To Have A "Livin' Establishment"..... Gofish tells him that he was gonna park his pick-up under that canopy and he would have a "Livin' Establishment"...
By this time... That big smile that "Camp Host" had on his face was just about gone.. We didn't know ifin' he was gonna let us stay or was he gonna ask us to leave...You could sure tell that this "Camp Host" was a Northern City Dude, with them big fancy words and proper English he was usin' but, that was startin' to slip away too....He done seen that he was gonna have a bad day with these two Rednecks......
He got around to askin' me what was my "Livin Establishment" was.... and I told him that it was the motel down the road.....
Needless to say that weren't the right words he was lookin' for...... That's when he said it...... Them magic words that we could understand...... "ALL WE ALL ARE TRYIN' TO DO IS HELP Y'ALL".. I ain't never heard words like this come from a city dude before.... Bad part about it He hasn't either 'cause he just started shakin' his head back and forth like he didn't believe he had just said what he did.... I looked at gofish and gofish looked at me and we both smiled... we knew we had him where we wanted him.....He ask me again about what kind of "Livin' Establishments" I was gonna use and I told him again.... It was a motel down the road......Then he said ... a little louder this time... WHAT ARE YOU GONNA PUT ON THAT SITE ?!.. That's when I told him that we had a motorhome comin' down the road...... Wished you could have seen that look on that "Camp Host's " face... Kinda got red a little ,beads of sweat broke out on his forhead.... and then he just said: Let me have some ID.......!! (started to ask him: About What but, I figured that would be goin' to far) Well, we give him our ID and then he wanted some License Numbers... Well, gofish couldn't remember his and had left his pick-up at the camp site and I didn't know what was on the WIF motorhome.......That's when we saw it......................A little tear came to that "Camp Host's " eye and then he said in a whimperin' voice: "Just make up something" and have a nice day.
That's how our weekend of fun at Clinton Lake got started....
Seems like evertime we drove by that "Camp Host's" Office he would get up and go inside of his camper for some reason.... Seems like a nice guy though.. Little slow for a Northen Dude..
