Well, the fall bite is ON now. I and my wife ,bankfishergal went back to that farm pond again Tue. We didn't get run off by the rain this time. :party0045:
We arrived to find the pond without a ripple. I took my whippy Bass Pro Micro Lite 7 1/2 ft. 4 piece pack rod. It is paired with a Shimano Symetre reel loaded with 2 lb. Yo Zuri mono. I started out with a Grizzly Jig- Bill's Water Flea, a 1/80 oz pink head jig w/grey duck feathers for a tail and tipped w/ wax worm. This consistant producer wasn't letting me down, and brought a nice batch of plump gills to hand. As an experiment ,I switched to a new jig I found. It is called "T.H.E. Jig. It is a very nicely painted 1/80 round head with a kip tail (calf tail) hair body. They are also quite pricey at $1.50 ea. The fella said they will go up to $2.00 in Feb. but that will not be a concern of mine. So far I am impressed with these jigs.:party0045: I guess I should say I am impressed with the ONE I have been trying.:icon_cool::icon_cool:
They are VERY durable. I would imagine that he is using Zap-A-Gap or some other quality cement while tying. The fall rate for this jig is just about PERFECT.:icon_cool::icon_cool: I finally added a tiny shot up 4' on the line to get it to depth a little quicker, then let the fall rate do it's thing in the last 4'. This proved to be a deadly method, and quickly added a bunch more gills to my basket.
I got lucky and didn't loose the nice jig to a chunk of wook on the light line.
My wife stayed on the bank as usual and got a nice mess also. She uses a 11 1/2 ft. 2pc. Outlaw crappie rod and Daiwa Prodigy 1500 reel loaded with Berkley Fireline Blaze Green 8 lb. She was using a 1/124 th oz. jig that I had tied with a simple red yarn stub tail and body of a simple wrap of chartruse sparkle chinelle.
The owner of this pond wanted to reduce the population and we done that for him. the pond is only 1 to 1 1/2 acres and we removed a couple hundred for him. He wouldn't mind another trip. but I think it is time to let it rest.
The wife wanted to try another lake on the way home so she done up a gourmet shore lunch of Chunk Style peanut butter and strawberry jam.
Hey, what can I say, Schoe wasn't there to work his magic. :confused0024::confused0024::confused0024:
We stopped by Lake Diamond by Montezuma, IA to find the good side of it closed, so called it a day and headed on home.
Hope some of you get the chance to get out there and enjoy these nice cool fall days. Mike
