I have run across an Antigue Stone Crock and I'm looking for anyone that can give me some idea of it's value ....
It's a rare find ! Not your normal size crock..... It's a 50 gal Stone crock....
Right now I don't know of any markings on it but, after tomorrow I will probably have pictures.....
Is there anybody on here that can help me out... I hate to let this one get by me.

My grandmother used to collect old kitchen items. I remember her saying that very large crocks like your describein are very rare because most of em get broken movein them around. If its an old one its gonna be worth some serious bucks.

My understanding is that, this is an Antique Crock....and very rare... I'll find out today.
Might be my "pot at the end of the rainbow" hope nobody craps in it. :confused0024:

You have a rare find indeed. I have several old crocks but 20 gal. is the largest that I have. I have seen a 25 Gal. once while up in Wis. but never a 50 gal.
I suppose a good way to find out something would be go to the Internet and look under Antique Stone Crocks. Schoe

Doesn't look like I'm gonna need to find out what it's wroth...He was suppose to be here at 11 AM this morning and then at 3 PM this afternoon and now it's almost 5:30 PM... No show...!!!!! Don't look like I'm gonna get it now....
I think the family has stepped in and JUST SAID NO !......or something....It's not but three hours from here to Louisville,KY and he was suppose to have left from there this AM to be here at 11 AM...... I think big sister has stepped in and said no. Just have to wait and see now....
I have seen the old crock many years ago and it was a 50 gal and it was stone... I told the boy's grandmother back then that I wanted it, not to let it get away from her....Well she didn't , she died first.....Now it's up to all the kids and grandkids to do something with.... Not looking good for ole Soups. Sorry this story didn't have a happy ending. (for me anyhow)

naw he was gonna have my work cut out fer me.......ifn hed got it his nex question was gonna be......gofish .....can ya make me some saurkraut???lol
Tha's 'xactly right ! and then we were gonna make some wine to go with it.....Was gonna Name it "Gofish's Wine and Dine" and put it on the market....(the first idea I had for the name was "Poop and Pee in a Jar" but, I didn't think that one would go over).
But, now all we've got is a mystery.....................Why didn't ole Soups get that crock.....????
What happened to the guy that was going to sell it to him........Four phone calls from him in two days and he never shows up..... The plot thickens......Did this guy mysteriously disappear or did some alien :evilgrin0025: spaceship come down an wisk him away :confused0056:.......What's really going on with this so called "Rare Breed of a Crock"????
To be cont.
Maybe or maybe not.
But, for right now...... " I Got Fishin' to do".

Another year has come and gone.. and I'm still on this site... Mighty nice of them to let me stay.
Schoe , Tim , Tee and even Ole Capt Kirk has done an excellent job keeping this site up and running....
I just got one question or maybe two......
We have over 800 members and only about twenty that post, Wonder why this is?
I know I talk too much on here but, somebody has got to keep it going....
We have a thread for just about every topic you can think of and if we don't, all you have to do is bring it up and somebody will be there to hash it out with you...
We have , what I call "tourist", that's people that just stick their heads in every now and then to read up on what's going on...
Wonder if it's that, people just don't have time to stop by and say "Hey"
The people we have on here now seem to be a friendly bunch, even the ones I've met in person.....( some even liked me)
We have "some" good sponsors on here too......Nice enuff to stop by sometimes just to give something away for free.....
Maybe it's that Christmas is coming up and people just don't have the time to post on here....
Or maybe it's that I'm just a fool to think that out of 800 people, we should have more than 20 (twenty) to post at least once a week....If nothing else just to let everybody know that they're still alive or maybe their dog had pups or something....
I guess maybe my thinking is just on the wrong track.....I was thinking that a "Group Forum" meant that there was a lot of people talking about different things and talking to different people, pretty well all the time....
I know I'm on here ,according to WIF's records 4 or 5 times a day.... No, I'm not a lonely Old man... I just like seeing what everybody else has going on, who's catching what , who's building what, who's had grand babies or new puppies......
Maybe I'm just an Old Busy body or something but, I'm still here and I'm still posting......
All the time I've been on the internet I've been a member of some kind of site....be it fishing, hunting, bikers or trikers... I've seen them come and go but, this one has out lasted most I've been on...Because........................of the hard work of just a few....
You can't just say Thanks to these people and figure that's pay enuff for their hard work.........My figurin' is that you have to use their site and the more you use their site , the more Thanks they get for their work.
Just simple thinking from a simple man.
Oh ...by the way..................Thanks guys .... You have a great site !
One more thing !!!!

Soupy, Just checked and there are 33 guests and 4 users. lol. Looks like you have got the odds bout right.:confused0024:
I think that most are just plain BUSY. Tough world out there to make a living and keep their head above water. Others are happy being entertained with you folks that are skilled at puting on the stories and informative posts.
Don't think for an instant that you folks are not appreciated for your posts.:icon_cool::icon_cool:
Thanks for putting up with me, Mike

Soupy,
I Think some people are a bit shy about chiming in, or don't know what to say. As you can see I am on and postin everyday. Well part of that is cause I met a bunch of ya all so I know ya in person and all makes it a bit easier. Now I'm going to say a bad word here "on another fishing site" that I used to frequent people who wew not regulars or people that kept fish for the table or even took a picture of a fish wrong they would get what I would call cyber assulted by other members. So negative experience may prevent people from posting.
Well just some thoughts.
troutrageous1
11-15-2007, 03:31 PM
Here's my .02, since I'm still somewhat new, and post I guess you could say semi-regularly.
Let me preface this in saying that I find the board very entertaining. Even though I've never met any of you in person, you are all very friendly, informative, and know how to tell a good story or joke.
That being said I do think it's probably a little bit intimidating to folks that either:
Don't live in the Northern Midwest (is that the right term?) - you know what I mean, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, Ohio, etc... Although I've seen some posts from some folks from Florida, Texas, and I'm in Eastern PA, but let's face it, almost all of the chat is centered around the Midwest.
Don't count catfish as a targeted species. I don't, not for any other reason than there's not all that many waters in PA that handle them. Could be the time of year that I joined (the Fall) but that seems to be what a lot of the talk's been about, except for Crappie Keith's recent great tips on ice & jig fishing. Finally, I work in the internet industry, so it's not uncommon for people to be passive users. I'll throw a stat out at you on people's online purchasing habits as an example - the average person views an item online over 9 separate times prior to purchase. It's just the nature of the beast for internet users to look a lot more than they act.
Again, I not only enjoy reading the posts, but replying to some of them, and even starting a few of my own. So if you'll all have me, I'm not planning on going anywhere.:icon_biggrin:

Catfish.... I thought that was the only fish there was....
Not really...I fish for catfish because # 1 that's the only fish I eat and # 2 it's the biggest fish in my area//// 'cept for them dang carp and gar # 3 anything with scales is bait to me !
Northern Midwest.......First time I've been accused of that.....Born and reared in Kentucky.... Pure Redneck Rebel blood ('cept for some hill-billy blood along the way !
But, I see your point and glad to have your input..
I hope no one takes this personally and I'm not pointing a finger at any one person...Just trying to get more post and input from those that are just shopping.
I know alot of people don't like telling their secrets and I'm not asking them to....Hell, I don't tell everything, just enuff to make you read my post.
Got_A_Fish, yep we met at Clinton and I was really glad you were there ( dang boat trailer anyhow).
Troutrageous, glad to have you along for this ride too....I've been reading some of your post and I think you're doing a great job.....Now ifin' we can get another 50 people like you and Got_A_Fish , we might wake this site up.
As far as lettin' you stay.......LOL.. I'll probably get kicked off before you...
Reason for the Midwest thing.... I think that's where all this got started....Snowbirds !...that's why it goes south (Fla) in the winter time ....
I just see 'em when they go by us here in KY.
Glad to have both of you guys and keep up the good work......

Good observation there Soupy. It is kinda sad that with all the members that very few are posting. Heck folks just drop us a line to let us all know that yer still kickin. I promise we won't go and bite ya or nothing. Well 'cept for Ole Soupy ya never know bout him. lol.
Trust me this is the nicest bunch of ole fishermen ya will ever meet. Everyone that I have had the pleasure of meeting one here were just the same in person as they are on here. If ya don't believe me just stop in at one of the gatherings that these great folks put on and you'll see for yourself. Oh and if ya do stop by be sure to bring an empty belly with ya. Trust me these fellers know how to feed a person right.

When you see the on line states "guests" are 95% of the time either search engine robots or spammer "bots"
Have seen sites show over 10,000 members but I guarantee you they don't have even close to that number actually posting and very seldom have more than couple hundred on line at any given time
Growth of a site is a slow process, main things:
Search Engine Attention
Referrals
On the search engines, best thing all of us can do there is when we post or start threads, put the titles so that they are
going to be something that someone that might be looking for a site like ours will be typing in a search engine
Pictures in attachments are a big help, search engines love pictures and will catalog them
Far as the "guests" that we see, a big majority of them are search engine "bots" with a few spammer bots, majority (maybe 95% are search engines)
So it isn't so much people passing us by as it is we are actually getting some good attention from search engines,
Staff is working, frequently in ways that are not visible, to help the site grow, and the one thing that is the greatest help we have is our members here
We have a GREAT group of people, they don't "flame" each other, and they help each other
We actually have a pretty good rate of growth here on this site, and the new members we get are posting and
are great additions to the family

I am proud to say that i have been a member of WIF since it was born,I
remember back when we hit 100 members and that has only been about
2 years ago,we have had a lot of people come and go over this period
of time but i guess thats normal for all web sites,we do have a lot of
visitors from time to time, but we have been able to retain a good amount
of members that know what this site is all about and that is Family, Friends,
Fishing and Fun.My thinking on the membership is that the Quality of the
members far out weighs the Quanity. We have picked up some Quality
members from up north in the past few weeks and we are glad to have
them aboard.I also have had the pleasure of meeting a lot of the members
both around here and in the south. It seems like when we have a gathering
some where we always pick up a couple of people that will become active
right away,I also know that a lot of people have jobs and familys to take
care of and at the cost of things cant attend all the WIF functions, are
intentions for the future is to hold them in areas that wont make it to
expensive to attend.I would like to challange each and everyone of our
members to sign up 1 person that they would consider having in there
home and having supper with, cause thats the kind of folks we want are.
Thats my 2 cents worth for today.:icon_biggrin: Kirk

nope not here i don't sounds like them blues r hard on rod n reel. had them reels long?
Had 'em for a pretty good while...One is an Abu Garcia 5000 and the other is an Abu Garcia f.i.v.e it's an older one.. Got two of them.. Good reels, but you're right don't take many of them big Blues to go thru these light tackle reels.
Reckon it'll be cheaper just to put 'em on a shelf and buy new ones.

tell ya if ever i find a reel i just feel i cann't do with out again i gunna buy 10 of em these new and improved ones keep gett'n cheaper made n the good ones keep going up in price
I think most folks that join a site is looking for something they want or need more than a place to share what they have or know. The excitement or adventure of exploring new (cyber) territory is a holdover from our pioneerin' nature I suspect. New, pretty, naughty or provocative grabs the attention of the masses... but I think you'll fine ANY sight depends most heavily on it's core population. I have several interests so I visit several sites ... some don't even ALLOW **** ... but I still go there ... like a couple poetry sites ... one or two that are heavy into gardening ... one I co-host ... so I'm kinder 'expected' to make an appearance now and then and then there's the one very small local site I'm working with.
All these sites suffer the same problems of little activity. It seems to get worse as more sites become available. "Site shopping" (looking for that perfect place to squat) is on the upswing ... I don't know any way to boost participation that hasn't been tried. WIF offers more BACK to it's members than most any site I know.
Soupy... you are right to question and the response is telling if you look at who responded... mostly the ones who visit most regularly and post most regularly.
WIF is a good site. There is a lot of work that goes on here with little thanks for it ... sooooooooooooooo.....
To admin ... WIF's 'core group' an' yes ... even th' Soupster ....
Thanx ya'll

i still remmber my first rod and reel was a zebco 202 as a matter of fact it was my 3,4,and 5 rod n reel combo. back then even tho they were called panfish combos they caught alot of big cats and carp and held up threw my abuse throwing them in the sand mud left out for days in the rain, give'm a good dunk in the drink and they would cast and reel like new. now a day u better not use them for more than catch'n bait

Gofish: To start with me eye site ain't what it use to be and after runnin' heavy equipment damn near all my life my fingers are just too clumsy to do any kind of small work ,like takin' the reels apart and cleanin' them when they need it... 'nuther thing.... I think a couple of them have just had one too many "Big Blues" on them...
The two I'm talking about now are The Agu Garcia 5000... The level wind is shot ,needs replacin' and cleanin'... The other one is the Abu Garcia f.i.v.e... it's like me just gettin' old... Needs to be cleaned and maybe reuilt if ya can find the parts...
And not to be holdin' anything back...... I really ain't smart enuff to take one of these type of reels apart and get it back together without leavin' something out.......
4 rum , love ya buddy.....even though we might be kin.....I'm just glad these guys let me stay on this here site.....
I've tried to get kicked off, I've tried to quit and I even blowed up a computer just so I wouldn't have to answer some of these post on here. But, for some reason I keep comin' back...Guess this place is kinda like me and the ole lady... Nobody else would have us , so we just stay at "Home" !
