With a little mention of dock fishing in Florida, a discription of fishing from the lake bank down there was explained to me. Now keep in mind that he was speaking of Lake Okeechobee. (sp) . He said that they don't have a shore bank as we would think of it up here. He said that with the exception of the canal it goes like this. -- Normally you can stand 50' from the water and the soles of your shoes might get wet. walk up 1/2 way to the water and you MIGHT have the soles covered. He said this gradual incline continues out into the lake till the water might reach 4 or 5 ' and run that way for a mile or so.
I found this interesting and was curious if there are lots of lakes with the edges that shallow? I realize of course that the mines would be steep . Mike

Yep thats the way most of the natural lakes are down here Mike. There are some places you can bank fish but those places are heavily pressured. A boat is the best way to fish here. If you make it down here my boat is always ready to go.

Yes thats true, how ever with gators down here, I would not be walking out in the lakes to fish... also in my area are a lot of old phosphate mines such as Saddle Creek that I posted.. you could all of a sudden find your self drowning in a 14' hole that came up out of nowhere.... lots of people thinking its ok to swim in those either drown when they panicked at the depth, or were eaten by a gator.... stay in the boat or stay on the dock and fish safe.
