went river runnin today,freezin rain an rain all day....caught a few channels an one hybrid striper bout 4 lbs......runnin back upriver we spotted a oystershell mushroom on the side of a willer tree...looked purty fresh so we went over ta git it an decided ta hunt em fer a lil while.....ended up with right at 30 lbs of oystershells an stumpys in an hour....coulda picked a couple more bags of stumpys but figured we had nuff fer a while.lol.......quite a few of the ones we found had snow or ice jus bout coverin em:icon_razz:

If they were in this area they would be froze solid as a rock.
I didn't realize that there was that much weather difference between the west and east side of IL. We are very near walking on our water .Mike

Joe, what is a stumpy ? I harvested lots of Oyster Mushrooms while I worked in Ohio and would put them on the top shelf of eating Schrooms. Slang for them out there was Hickory Jacks. Schoe

already ate all the stumpys schoe but im goin thurs. maybe an try an git ya a good pic of one.....theyre a stalk mushroom with a reddish brown cap....stalks real woody an inedible....the top of the cap is sticky to the touch,sometimes enough theyll stick ta yer fingers after ya pick em lol....also call em slimys round here.....find em same places as the oystershells an roun hackberries an such too........coulda picked 3 or 4 more bags of them ifn i wanted.....fresh fried catfish ,mushrooms an taters tonight lol:icon_biggrin:
giller im a fair piece south too....bout the middle of the state....aint got but a skim of ice here an its gone now......we were scrapin snow/ice off some of em yesterday.......gonna try an fill the freezer thurs. ifn i can with em....got a nuther BIG section of willers an elms we aint hit fer a while

I'll have to study up on those Stumpys. We've got lots of flood plain backwater areas here. I know of an area just upriver that might just hold them.
I also think I'll sign on to the "Schoe's school of Oystershell mushrooms" also. lol Mike

willers an elms fer the oystershells giller...gotta watch fer them lil bugs when yer cleanin em too....got nuff im thinkin bout dehydratin a few
