I just got back from a great vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This has to be one of the greatest areas to vacation. We got to do rappelling, mountain hiking, snorkeling, Mule riding up mountain paths, zip lineing and deep sea fishing. We went out on the Giselle with Mike's Fishing Charters. Most of the fish we caught on the charter boat were smaller and I am not sure what types they were. We did land a 7'2" beautiful sailfish. From a weight calculator I found online it's approximate weight was 56#. I can't take all the credit because since it was the only large fish we caught 3 of us all took a turn reeling it in. I will get some pictures of the other fish up as well. Anyone that will be in the area I would highly reccomend you getting in contact with Fernando Tejeda at fermategui@hotmail.com All of the crew were great and felt like old friends by the end of the day. I am hoping to go back out with them next winter.

Sounds like you and Jennifer had a blast in Mexico. Glad to hear you had a great time. Looks like the fishing was quite an adventure. And the best part is you got home just in time for some great Ohio weather, ice and snow. Welcome home. :icon_biggrin:

The fight wasn't too bad. What was the most amazing was when the sailfish shot up out of the water flailing about trying to throw the hook...just like you see in the movies. They purchased some live baitfish from some local fisherman that had been out earlier that morning collecting bait..just pulled up right beside their boat and loaded them up. It was amazing how they could manuver that boat around in crowded conditions. They were some type of saltwater herring. A few of the fish we caught they said were kind of like skipjacks. They put these in the back of the divided bait tank. I thought we were going to use them later for bait but I was wrong. They were the crew's lunch. They fileted and then cut them up into pieces. Then they mixed them with fresh lime juice and cut up vegetables for a type of sushi. I was the only one besides the crew that tried it. I was suprised how tender and good tasting it was. I found out from a cab driver later that the lime juice cooks the fish meat. The whole fishing trip was great.

No...no fighting belt...lol Just like fishing anywhere else you never know what you will catch...better to be oversized than undersized.
