The Mrs. went and got me one of those fancy Rapala AC/DC filleting knives for Christmas. So as much as it shames me to say it I will probably be eating more of my bait now. Heck I might just have to talk Catbird into following you around at KY Lake so I can break it in right. I can't believe I just said that. :confused0024:

LOL, Be carefull there Jason. Fishing for those scrappers can get to be a joy.
I think you will like that knife. My biggest problem with them is that carrying case. It is some engineers idea of a sick joke!! lol Mine found a home in a bucket I carry with me. Knife, blade, and little 12 v battery all together in a bucket. There is another weak point in them. The trigger needed another 3cents invested in a better switch. After a thousand or so gills it gets to sticking in the on position. I tore mine down a few times ,but as of now mine is sticking and I just turn it on and off by disconnecting at the battery:confused0024:
I was told by some that do large cats that the kitchen type 110 v are best.
I hope we get time to chase a few gills at Kentucky this year, they have some nice ones there. I'm looking deeper this year, very few were on the beds. I'll have my camera to find out what is stacked out on the point. :party0011::party0011::party0011:Mike

Jason, I should have mentioned that if you had followed us last year to find bait,( Gills) you could have seen Joe tell us about the best place. lol That Joe is so flexible it is unbeliveable. I'd bet his wife has no idea what kind of fish he will bring home. I'm envious of his ability to switch in mid stream. lol Mike

Ray,They are real good to use on Trot Lines, its called recycleing. When
you fillet just be careful not to cut the vital organs and they will live
a while, fillet one down at Turkey Creek and throw it back in the water
an watch it try to swim away :evilgrin0031: Kirk

Capt. Thank you for the great new information!lol
It would be neat if you could find the time to demonstrate this filleting method at Kentucky Lake in the spring. :icon_cool::icon_cool::icon_cool:
I realize you will be pretty busy catching cats, but would be informative if you have the time. :confused0024: You are welcome. Mike

Do you know what kinda knife u use there mike, what size blade do you use?

I have a 7inch blade for the elec knife I have that works perfect for cats, got it out and lookd at using it for gills but lookd way to big to try to use on gills, if I recall I thouhgt I seen some smaller blades maybe a 5 inch or so, maybe that be better but Just seems to big and bulky to fillet a gill, Guess we'll need a video of the Giller working his magic with that fancy new WIF video camera.

My Rapalla has a pair of curved pointed ,serrated blades that measures 6" from the point to the guard.
I'll check with my publicity agent and see if I can work in a short gill filleting film. lol
The thing that bothered me most at first is that
"larger than life" handle on the eletric. Mike

I did get a chance to use my new electric fillet knife at kieths house after a rough day of fishing. it works great i don't think i'll be doing it by hand anymore i'm not a pro at it by nomeans but for the first time using a fancy tool like that i think everything worked out fine.

Kenny isn't going to have any problem using that new knife at all. He's already got it down pat. He is actually a lot better at it than I thought he would be starting out. I'd let him clean my fish if he wishes. Mike
