One more day left here before we head North. I still have a few things to round up.

It's colder than heck yet so I am a little afraid to take the Suburban to the car wash to give it a good going over. The windows and doors may freeze up, but oh well it has to be done. Then an oil change.

My good friend Giller is running his fanny off getting things together for this trip which is greatly appreciated.

The weather man should cooperate with us as it is supposed to start warming up by the weekend.

Keep an eye out for reports as I think we will have access to a puter. Schoe

We were 20 below this morning ,but it's gonna be in the 30's this weekend.
Dang! I wanted you guys to expierence the real deal.
Not really, having above freezing temps will make it nice to get out of the porties and mingle not to mention I like to run and gun holes.
We need this thaw to melt some of the snow thats been blanketing the ice from making good ice so we can drive trucks out.
There's a good 12-15 inches now but I'd not chance it yet.We will tow everything with my 4 wheeler as it stand now.
It's gonna be fun,I've put the invite out to another site www.catch-n.com (http://www.catch-n.com) for others to join us.
Kevin Dahlke who is from Ma. will be at his parents over the weekend .He is the pro staffers mngr.and will be joining us plus 1 of his friends.
My son will join us and it sounds like there might be a few more.
Here's a few links talking about fishing BSL and the G-T-G.

Hope y'all have a safe and memorable trip. But ain't ya supposed to head south in the winter to go fishin? Instead ya head north into below 0 temps to poke holes in the ice to catch bait.:confused0024: I don't know what we're gonna do with ya guys. Hope y'all get some nice slabs and gills though. Can't wait to hear the reports and see the pics.

Hey Jason, if I wanna catch kittykats I just put out some tuna and a bowl of milk.
Then my dog runs em down .After cagging we mount the cats in a launcher and yell pull.
The 12 gauge takes care of the rest.

It was cold this am ,but with a 60 degree temp swing we will be on the ice getting a tan.
With a porty to jump into every once in awhile to warm up it'll be just fine out there.
If the wind stays down it'll be nice.
I've got an extra down jacket and another pair of boots. Real wool socks are big in keeping those toes warm & toasty.
Should it get too hot we can cut a hole in the ice via chainsaw and go for a dip polarbear style.
You guys down south are sissies! Who loves ya!

Well thats one way to do it! :icon_biggrin:

It does look like you guys have a blast out on the ice up there. We usually don't see enough ice around here to even think much about ice fishing. Maybe one of these years I'll have to take a trip north to see what it is all about. But after looking at the pic above I think that ice must get to ya after awhile. Boy o boy o boy o boy, what a 3 days of fishing.
Schoe(WhereIFish.com owner),Giller,GotaFish,Catracker came up from Illinois/Iowa to fish.
They got up Thurs. night and we headed out to a small lake close by.
Schoe was making a whole prime rib and we needed to stay close.
Dang he can cook, anyway we caught a few gills and a mess of crappies.Nothing huge ,but fish none the less.
Catracker & Gotafish got to see how to work the water column and learn the mechanics of lifting fish.
At noon we headed back to my house to cook the rib and then we went back out to another lake but the action was tough and slow.
After fishing we came back to a full rib , boiled cabbage, baked potatoe with gravy and au jois.
Boy can that Schoe cook.
We woke up Sat .and sure as heck Schoe is back to his old tricks.
Eggs,bacon,ham,coffee.
After breakfeast we hit BSL and started on the horn.
I drilled many holes and we set up.Met up with Hoggie and his son James.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h209/palisade1kid/08%20ice%20fishing/08iceseason112.jpg
It was the same ole thing we had seen earlier.A whole bunch of nothing.
I even searched some more of the bay to come away without marking anything.
So we packed up and headed for the upper main lake.
Got stuck half way out as the road had drifted over.
This bay was wet and you had to stay to the road or drown. Not really ,but there was a bunch of water to be sure.
So we get out there and set up.
Here's a pic that reminds me of "Grumpy old Men"
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h209/palisade1kid/08%20ice%20fishing/08iceseason098.jpg
The bite was slow and not many fish were marked in good areas well know for slabs.
We had lunch from the prime the night before.
We sliced it up and made sandwiches after heating it up in a pan.
Then this flag goes up.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h209/palisade1kid/08%20ice%20fishing/08iceseason096.jpg
I caught a small walleye.
Soon another flag goes up.
I catch 1 of the biggest perch I've ever caught. It was every bit of 12"
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h209/palisade1kid/08%20ice%20fishing/08iceseason083.jpg
IGotaFish caught 1 bigger on the tip up.
Here's Giller with a beauty slabber.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h209/palisade1kid/08%20ice%20fishing/08iceseason092.jpg
Hoggie and the rest of the boys were great to fish with.
Here's the crew.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h209/palisade1kid/08%20ice%20fishing/08iceseason124.jpg
After fishing we hit my house for .......what for it....
Another Schoe chow session.
Chops, boiled cabbage, some left over bisquits and gravey, beans and mashed potatoes with gravey.
Oh ya there was bisquits and gravy left over from breakfeast too.
How could I have forgotten.
Oh ya,3 hard days of fishing.
Anyhay they got to jawing websites.
I'm thinking there was some awesome brainstorming around the dinner table after dinner, but after that good food I was in and out of la-la land.
Sunday morning.....
Schoe,Giller,Catracker and GotaFish load up to go home.
I'll say you could not find anymore nicer guys.
We should give them a warm welcome when the come over to catch-n.
so Kevin Dahlke arrives just in time.
Hoggie,James ,Kevin and I head out to meet Sandburr,Cody,Vince,Tony and 2 sons plus a freind.
We hit the narrows this time on BSL.
It was overcast and almost foggy.
The fish were biting.
Vince drills this nice eye I 'll guess around 3 lb's.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h209/palisade1kid/08%20ice%20fishing/08iceseason116.jpg
There was action!
We caught perch, pike, walleyes, crappies and a whitefish.
I'm just gonna lay out some pics.

I hadda a great time met some nice northern people, The fish don't cooperate as well as i had wished while we were there anyways. Figures LOL but i did learn how to try and work fish with a vexlar and T.H.E. jig i did happen to catch some crappie, nothing great but they were fish nun the less.

keith was a great host made us feel right at home, shoot he even got his digs in on me Just like the rest of WIF family. I tell ya what i get no respect. LOL was nice to meet hoag and his boy very nice fella and he had lots of great info stored in his memory bank.

wish we could've stayed for more fishing today, but i haven't been to work in a week and a half. and i know that jeff had to be back today also. and as usual bob had to put on a great feast with the prime "cut your own piece" rib, my knife went a little crocked and i had a half a beef cut up and on my plate. I ate the whole thing. needless to say i didn't go hungry. Giller's wife made some fresh chocolate chip, m&m, and oatmeal cookies for us to have as a desert, they went over very well, i had my share, well with all the great eats i hadda come back home so i could get the 10#'s i gained.

was a fun and informational trip for me as i have never ice fished before.

Thank you keith for the hospitality and all the great lessons

Well the trip is pretty much covered already ,so not much to add.
It was great to get up north and meet some folks.
We hit a tough time for the fishing, but had a great time. . It wasn't just us either, the bite was just off and we done our best.
I did learn that it is a different style of getting on the fish up there. A lake can be huge, but the shacks, for the most part, are set up in little towns, then folks wait for the fish to come by. They also locate these towns as far as possibe from the point of entry for the lake so they can make use of the 4 wheelers and snowmobiles.
If the trail out to the town gets too boring they put another lake on top of the ice. This lake is sometimes shallow as a foot or two.and a mix of water, partially frozen ice, and drifting snow. lol

Boy oh Boy, where do I start. Myself, Kenny, Jeff, and giller just returned from Minnesota last night still pumped up from our Northern adventure.

The fish weren't exactly ravenous but we managed to catch a few of each target specie. I think the the slow bite was due to the low pressure system that has slipped into the North Central states.

Our host, Crappie Keith, really did everything he could to make our trip a success. As we all know, fishing is fishing and there are times when the fish won't cooperate no mater what. But due mostly to Keith's expertise and his product, T.H.E. JIG, we managed to catch a fair amount of fish of nice size, especially the Jumbo Perch along with some nice Crappie and Bluegills that came from Big Sandy Lake. And honestly, I didn't see anyone else catch anything except a couple of Northerns with tip ups.

Another plus of our adventures is the new people that we meet along the way. One fellow in particular was Dave Hoggard,("Hoggie") and his son James , who are very fine people dedicated to promoting the sport of fishing. "Hoggie" has the fishing site www.catch-n.com which I am sure we will be working with a lot in the near future.

As a lot of you already know I am terrible at remembering names so not to leave anyone out that we met on this trip I would like to thank all those we came in contact with for making our trip a memorable one.

Here's a few photos to share,

The first one is where we drilled first. The next five are each of our crew holding one of their prizes, guess which chunk was Kenny's? Then, Keith with his great Lab "Buck" who loved everyone. Schoe

Well I got a put my $.02 in on this trip, First of all I would like to thank Crappie Keith for his "southern" hospitality even though we were so far north. He is definatly a good ol'boy.

Keith taught us how to work the fish using the vexilar and T.H.E. jig and we caught fish when people around us caught nothin. Eventhough the bite was very slow. This trip was a great time and the people we meet are some good people thats fer sure.

Now I would also like to thank Schoe, Giller and Catracker fer taking me along, This was my first Where I Fish trip of what I hope to be many more. You guys gave me a warm welecome and I felt like I've known y'all for a long time already.

Thank you all for the GREAT TIMES and MEMORIES!!!!!

Oh yeah Schoe ya sure know how ta put together some great grub I think I gained 20 pounds in 3 days....

It was fun rippin on Kenny though.
He sure did get hammered. Most men of weaker character woulda got all pisssy long before the end of the weekend. Kenny ,your the man!

Bad luck Jeff ...my bad IGotaFish was a treat too.
Giller you ole bass-turd what can I say.You got a heart of gold.
When it comes to Schoe. Dang good thing he left cause between me & Buck we was about to gain another 50 pounds.
I'd have gotten all tuckered out running Buck trying to get him back into huntin shape.
He still ain't solid when he does his duty.
Geeze louis them there cookies are somthing else plus I've been eyein that canned vennie and that jerk is really good.
That dog of mine keeps eyeballin me like I'm Schoe when I dig into that jerk.

Hoggie said he enjoyed that talk Sat.night....I should add the correct address.

Well from what I here that trip proved one - maybe more then one thing again.

WIF has a bunch of great guys.
The food and talk are almost as enjoyable as the fishing.
Everyone can teach and learn new tricks.
Schoe won't let you starve on a fishing trip.
And Kenny still can't catch much without Duanne.

Thanks for the pictures and the stories everyone and I hope Keith has room for more cause there will be a bunch of us that will want to join in next year. Thanks Keith for the web address and you are good for WIF!

Come late ice or ice out fishing is the best for me on slabs and bulls.
there will be a time for some really nice fish.
I'll make the call when I start to see them.

Shoot Keith, now why did you have to go and post those neat spring pictures of nice crappie and even worse, those beautifull bluegill. :icon_cool::icon_cool::icon_cool::icon_cool:
Bringing those gills to hand on the light tackle and T.H.E. jigs would be a blast for sure.
You got me fired up now.:confused0068: All I need now is to figure out how to get the drool off my keyboard.
Seriously Keith, really appreciate the pictures while the winter rain is pelting us here.
Wishing you good ice and hot bite, You are the MAN!! Mike

You sure show off those scrappy gills well. Didn't realize that you had Red Ear up there in the north country either.
Thanks for the heavy dose of adrenalin. I'm FIRED!!
Just went out and checked out the Osagian 18' flat bottom canoe w/8 hp Mariner. Looks ready to go if we lose all ice in the canal or backwaters.
Would be neat to try some open water ice fishing with the canoe and Vexilar. :icon_cool::icon_cool:lol
Thanks for sharing the well done pictures and vid. Mike

Keith, love those Gill photos. Just picture Mike running around like a sprayed Cockroach with his Adrenalin running near explode getting things ready for his next shot at the gills.

I know Mike well enough that when he goes to sleep tonight those photos will be jumping the fence and Mike will be counting.

The beauty of four fellas going on a trip like last weekend is the fact with gas prices the way they are it don't hurt so bad split four ways.

Actually we all put a certain amount in the kitty and we were surprised at getting a good sum back each upon our return.

Even pulling one boat and possibly carrying another on top of my Suburban we could do the same thing very reasonable in the spring.

I am in the market for a 18 or 20 ft, Flat back Canoe if anyone runs across a good used one.
That would be perfect to haul on the top of my Suburban.
