I have been out a few times in Aug. It was super slow went out with catbird and we didnt get a thing. I was fishing for cats the whole time. So I switched i started fish for small mouth. I have been killing them all around 8-11 inchs not bad. I have been killing the war mouth bluegill to. If the catfish dont pic up here soon. I may start carp fishing. I river is flowing good right now due to the rains we had. Not to change the subject but please take time out and think how lucky we are are not to be affected the the lastest storms down south. My best friend has lost everything but is still in a good mind frame. thank you guys

The Cat fishing has picked up pretty good here especialy in the Rock River where I do most of my fishing. The Flats have started and the good size Channels. I'm going to fish in the morning at daylight on a couple of good log jams while waiting for the Geese to come over like they have been doing and try to get a couple as the early season starts tomorrow. I think it opens Sept 1st. or close to it and I think Ohio has a split season so check the state regs. I don't think I will be able to make the dove season this year as I have too many Irons in the fire with the WIF site. Schoe

I was out on the Miss, pool 13 yesterday and today. Got 20 nice channels (average 2 pounds) in the last 2 days using chicken livers. (Thanks Schoe). Was fishing the channel edges of wingdams near the points.
Schoe, Did you get my message about the bulk tank?

You are right Schoe. Dove season opened Sept. 1. I was out with a friend and we bagged just 20 birds on the 1st and 2nd. That's total for the two days. They were flying pretty good but I wasn't shooting very well.
Sure would like to get out on the river for some catfishing. Haven't been able to wet a line in a long time.

Did you ever feel like you'd done something wrong but you didn't know what? That's the way I've been feeling lately. Feel like I've offended someone but I can't remember what I've done. Don't know if it's something I said or didn't say. Don't know if it's something I did or didn't do.

Veets, heck I almost always feel like that probally because I usually am guilty. Not on purpose, it's just that I come across wrong sometimes. Whatever you may or may not of done, the people that know you will of already forgotten about it by the time you realize what it is. Now quit your whinning and go catch some fish...lol

Yeah Catbird I'm trying to shake the feeling but it's hard to do. Maybe once I can get back out there and do some fishing it will work itself out.

Fishing has been pretty dismal here. Best times to go out are at night, but its been cooler lately so all that can change. We've had some rain, some wind, and that tends to poop on any biting. Last Tuesday night I did some overnight fishing along the Lake Erie shoreline in Luna Pier, MI, caught a small bluegill and a couple small bullheads. Then I went out Thursday morning just after sunup and couldn't buy a bite, ended up getting skunked at this state park in Monroe, MI.

The fall bite is starting to kick in, the crappie and the walleye are starting to hit in the strip mine ponds of Knox county on minnow tipped jigs.

we haven't been out for a few days, but we've had good luck so are baiting our bank poles at dusk and checking them early the next morning...should be interesting to see how that changes with the weather!

Fishing has been outstanding in the chicagoland area, many large smallies from the fox!
I'd put the pics up but I'm not sure if this site supports that?

We just got in from the memphis get together and out of all our boats i if i'm not mistaken 6 fish were taken all weekend. It was tough out there friday with gail force winds and the water whitcapping. We managed to catch a few skips off the dikes and we fished everything. Rip rap, dikes, cuts and even the main current channel ledge. Saturday was pretty much of the same. We had a great time visiting with the fellas shooting the bull sharks and all. That cold front seemed to of turned the bite off.

Well Guys, I think this trip should be summarized as a learning experience for all concerned. If there was a possibility of anything going wrong, it did and not going into detail we all survived and got home safely. I think we know what to expect next year and should be able to make a good showing from the BOC and Whereifish.com
We did meet a lot of good people and made some new friends that I think will grow into long term friendships. I guess thats what it's all about. Schoe

Schoe, we ran into a similar experience in memphis earlier this year. We were intending on staying for a few days and decided to get a hotel. Since we live 2 hrs away, we try to make the most out of all our fishing time by moving, moving, moving (other than some sandbar time for the pup). After running and gunning all day we were beat and decided to hit the hotel. We got there and the room was alot less than what i expected for 155 dollars a night.
I not much for complaining but since half the ceiling was falling in, the tub had mold beyond belief in every crevice and it smelled everything in the room had been wet. Everything looked like it hadn't been cleaned especially the sheets. Within 5 minutes i was back at the desk. We couldn't find another pet friendly hotel that week so we just came on home. We found one now and if you ever come to memphis the amerisuites is the place to stay. Very nice and reasonably priced.

I took Angie out this afternoon just below THE red channel marker and she caught about 26 channel cats, and kept a mess. I took my brother's oldest daughter out for about 2 hours she hooked up a nice flat but could not keep him out of the wood and lost him. She did catch a small flat and went home happy.
To respond to the question were there any fish caught at the Classic there was 1241 lb of flats weighted and 200 plus pounds of Channels.
Murphy' Law did apply to you this year but now you have it out of your system and we look foward to see you this winter. Remember that our flats only turn off for a few days each winter. I still owe you a fishing trip.

Don I was wondering if you and Angie had had time to relax since you two worked your hind ends off for the Classic.
What is the bait of choice for the channels there? Myself, for channels from 1-3 lbs. I have had the best luck with chunks of chicken livers here in the Rock River here in Ill.
We plan on leaving Ill. around the 27th of Dec. and can get into our place at Indian Pass on Jan. 1st. and will be there till Mar. 1st and we have to move to another place till April 1st that is closer to the boat ramp at Indian Pass.
My good friend and neighbor who will be there this winter when we are is down there now . He flew down yesterday and is going to be there for three weeks fishing the river systems and off shore some. His name is Mack Sullivan and he may look you up for some advise and directions
Again I can't thank you and your wife for your hospitality during our stay during the Classic.
Your right on the Murphys law and I am thrilled that part is over. I sent the Cannon Camara to their repair center after I talked to them. They said if it would have been salt water the garbage can would have been the right place for it to go, but since it was fresh water it can probably be salvaged. Schoe

During the winter is when we use cut bait some, the gars are not as bad. But for eating size channels I use Sonny's Blood (dip bait),crawfish, small stump knockers, shrimp and earthworms.
Angie and her mother likes small channels that you can fry whole in a 12 inch cast iron frying pan.
I hope they can save your camera and the pictures.

Don, hope you got my pics. Unfortunately, I didn't have a pic of the turtle on the camera. The movie crew guy "Froggie" said he would cut some out and get them to me. I have no idea how to get in touch with him. D.H. took a couple but I don't think they came out too good. I want to post a story on here about the behemoth Turtles of Fla. but dint have any pics. Maybe this winter if they are not hibernating we can get some pics. Schoe
I got the pics you sent Schoe. It is sad that there are no turtle pics.
I need to get with Don and see when the bream and sunfish go on bed down there. There is a "bruntee lady" up here that is chompin at the bit to tie into some of those shovel size bream.

Tee
The Shellcrackers (red ear sunfish) around the full moon in April and May.
Most of the other blue gill, red breast. warmouths, ect the full moon May and June. If the water is right the limit of fish can be caught most of the time. The mostake I made when we tried to get bait( I did not have the time to really take you fishing) was I should have taken one of my boat so we could have went to area most of the people were not fishing. When you decide to come down wwe will try to put you and your wife on some fish.
I hope to be able to take Schoe when he gets down also. I feel I need to prove the fishing down here is not all bad luck!

I will try to get so photos but I guess I should tell you my camera has went swimming twice in the last two years and I think it is time to get a new one.
The bream bite depend on water temp. Last year 20-30 like the one Brynn is holding in the photo was common all winter. Angie caught a one and quarter pound shellcreaker today 14 inches long, 9 inches deep and 1 3/4 inches thick. But water temp is the key in the winter. My best channel cat fishing is Jan. and Feb. But our water is below 51-52 degrees for only about 4 to 5 days a year and this is when the flats shut down in our area.
Schoe tell us about your new boat.
Don
yea Schoe, go ahead and give us all "boat envy"....... lol

Two Rivers I wish you luck. I don't know from my personal experiences but I think there is a good Blue Cat population here in my area of the Mississippi. I have never fished for them before around here. But I'm going to start.
Don, I don't know if I told you but I called Cannon and told them what happened and they said as long as it didn't go in salt water it could be fixed. So they told me where to send it. I'm waiting on an estimate now. Schoe

Well the bite was extremely slow today. Most of which i think was caused by frozen bait. We tried for 2 hours to find freshies with no luck. The wind was tough but i can't remember a nicer day being out there. After fishing the dikes with no luck for a couple hours it was time to hit the banks. Oh we did get one good pull down on the dikes when i was playing with the pup only to get to see it as the rod jumped back up.
The current was rippin down the banks, which a 16 ounce sinker would barely hold it to the bottom. After a couple hours it was around 3:30. One of the rods bobbled for a second and bent on over. He got his eyes crossed. lol I was trying to get the other rods up so i could release the anchor only to find two were hung up! Now being worried about loosing the fish, i slowly tighened the drag down and slowly started reeling him in.
I didn't realize he had peeled off so much line. With all that current he felt like a freight train out of control! As he got closer to the boat one of my new rods broke at the third eye. Luckily he was close enough to get him in the boat.
I never put a scale on him but a good guess is high thirties (thas minus the 10 pounds extra i seen). LOL Soon as the pics comes in i'll post a few so you guys can guesstimate. Luckily i remembered the digital camera about an hour away from the house. Walliworlds little disposable was the best we could do.
