This is a true but funny story and this being winter and up here in Wi my boat doesnt run to well on ice, lol. So i thought i share this story and give you all a good laugh. My brother and i share a love for fishing, and are addicted to smallmouth, we fish alot on the milwaukee river and let me tell you we have caught some nice ones.
My brother calls me up and says lets go fishing i just bought a new g-loomis glx rod and new Shimano 2500. So we load up my boat, its a jet, his ranger doesnt do to well in the river, I like to point that out to him as we are running in about 6'' of water. We head to one of our fav holes, if you live close to the milwaukee river and twist my arm just right i might show you were.
So we are fishing this bank, I using my 7' bionic blade and him his new gloomis and he is expounding the virtues of this new rod, now i am not knocking gloomis rods, but i can buy 4 bionic blades ( have since discovered acadia ) to one glx. Now up to this point we havent caught anything, so he tells me here you try it out and tell me what you think of it. We are using the same baits, got to love a hula grub on a hyperhead jig. Dont you just love the smell of garlic?
So here i am in the front running the trolling motor, if you have fished rivers the guy running the trolling motor gets to cast about half as much as the guy in back. Now i swear this is the truth, the first cast i make with this, i twitch the bait a couple of times, with my brother talking to me the whole time about, doesnt it feel great, you can feel all the rocks on and on he goes. I feel the little tap tap and boom i hook a nice 3 1/2-4 pound smallie.
The moral of this story is dont go out and buy a new rod and talk it up, then hand it to your brother as he will break it in for you. Now everytime we go fishing i get to remind him about who caught the first fish on His rod, lol. I hope you all get a good laugh out of this and thank you for letting me share. Here is a link to the photo of the new rod n reel and its first catch
