Everytime I come to WIF, seems like I just look around and leave. Haven't really posted much, myself, lately. Just happened to notice that the same holds true for most of the people on this forum. I mean every forum has their regulars (people who visit everyday, and post everywhere). However, I noticed that there are many threads with only a couple posts but hundreds of views. This means everybody goes in their to see what's going on, but they don't post. I have to admit, I do this alot (I am pretty shy). However, we have to start posting. The purpose is to share our thoughts (no matter how shy you are). You have to post your thoughts. Even if someone disagrees with you and your opinion, your opinion is valid. You must post your opinion.

Posts are important to the vitality of the forum, so I plead PLEASE POST!

I agree, I will start posting more. I mean nobody should just post BS post all the time, but I think we all have some good info to share.

Thanks Ron, I appreciate you posting your statement. The one thing that will hold this site together is participation from our members. In our travels we pick up a few new people that I hope will continue to add their opinions and experiences. Thanks again, Schoe

But Zakk, you are the best at it!!!!!!!!!

It is difficult to post opinions, when there is nothing posted. If you have a question, ASK!!!!! Then we can throw out our opinions.

Catfishirv, I agree. However, there are alot of people that don't seem to post or participate in anything other than reading what others have posted. As Schoe said: Participation will hold this site together.

Some sites are basicly one type of fish like the BOC( and they seem to do an outstanding job for catfish) but this site encourages all types and were to fish for them - this is a great undertaking but if everyone started by asking just one question about a species they would like to know more about and where in their area to find that species it may help to expand the knowledge base for whatever your looking for -

So know I am heading over to the panfish(crappie) section to do just that!

Excellent advice. I'm not a bit shy. I post any and all thoughts I have...usually. I'm a bit busy with taxes and other brain numbing stuff just now, so gabbing about fishing is a relaxing outlet. I also spend time surfing, so when I find something neat I'll be sure and post it on the forum. :)

I would doubt that this would be of interest to you but in the spirit of increased posting I'll share my thoughts. :)
One of my grandsons (11 yrs old) has worked hard improving his grades at school. Under the thin guise of rewarding him, I'm taking him to at least southern IL .for some crappie chasing. We will leave Monday am early and try to return by Friday.
I'm planning a stop at the Bass Pro in the St. Louis area also. I have a little info on some lakes in the Carbondale IL. area that I've wanted to try . I called the Grizzly Jig Co. down by Reelfoot lake TN,and he said that it has been rough down there. He did say that it should be good for crappie if the wind and weather in general takes a turn for the better.
So if you see an old guy and a ten yr. old bumming around in southern IL. looking like they don't have a home, just call the law and inform them that an old guy has been abducted and held for fishing. :D Tight lines all, Mike

Good luck Mike with the Crappie fishing. I don't think there would be a better reward for your Grandson than to go fishing ,especially with Grandpa. That will leave memories with him that he will never forget.

Although it may be a bit early for Reel Foot it should be producing a lot better as I heard they stopped the commercial fishing of the Crappie in the lake. Does anyone know if that is true?

Good luck wherever you go, Schoe

schoe i was there a couple years ago and i think they did.personally i hated the lake.a little bit of wind and you were done.absolutely no boat control.just me though and we were there in nov. illinoisgiller mill creek crappies have been hitting pretty decent.especially if you use minnows.plus theres always the cats.if i can figure out the problem with my brakes on my truck (think my master cylinders bad) might be able to clear a day or 2 on my schedule. brakes first though last trip i launched boat truck and all. not good!

Ahhh, Reelfoot Lake. My experiance with that lake can only be discribed as a love-hate relationship. The first time I went there was around 30 yrs ago, give or take a few. I had 5 kids in tow and a shoestring budget . We camped at the Reelfoot Inn campground. They had boats for rent called the Reelfoot Lake Stumpjumpers. They had a little Briggs engine in the back with a prop shaft running through the back to a guarded prop. The rent on these set us back $6 per day. We took two for 3 days of lake exploring. I think we caught a fish or two, but had a busy fun time exploring the nooks and crannies of the beautifull lake .
I didn't get back till I think, 4 yrs ago. I and the wife were driving around sightseeing because the wind was too high to fish. 3 16' wide deep rental jons were swamped that day. I decided that I would go on a mission to find a stumpjumper. They had been replaced when the slip clutch came on the scene. I checked the local want ads and drove the back allys of the local villages. I finally asked a bait shop if they ever became available. He said to go up the road where Dale Calhoun is still hand building them. I had him build me one. I've been back with my grandson once, son once, and with a family group once . We always stay at the Airpark Inn to avoid the wind as best we can. We have always enjoyed our stay, but can catch more fish here in the local area than there. The lake is constantly bombarded with tourist. Even though the commercial crappie fishing is history, the size is comming down due to pressure. The spring yo yo catfishing is still unbelievable .:D The bluegill that the lake is famous for is pretty good ,but again pressured and keeps size down a little. The spawning beds are well known by the guides and they keep them in a turmoil.
WOW!, I didn't mean to ramble on so, better get to work. Mike

Mike - while your down there Shelbyville may be a good stop for crappie - My son-in-law goes down each spring and gets a boat load! Still got a bag or two in the freezer! Only complaint he has is the disrespectfull Bass fishermen! Oh! and he dresses warm!
Your grandson will be telling tales of this trip when he's our age!

Gofish, they still do that down there. They know there is a slip clutch, and abuse it to the limit.lol The bass are good on wood . If one can find a stump ,it's a good place to start. (sarcasem intended.) lol
Shelbyville is a little bigger than we want to play on. We'll have fun despite unseasonable cold. Mike

MIKE
i was reading where you launched boat-trailor and truck all at the same
time,im sure that was a bad experience for you,BUT some of the best
video you can get is setting back in the shade and watch a 6 lane
boat ramp on a busy weekend, some of the things you will see come
under the title of STUPID HUMAN TRICKS.:D

yep a fun time was had by all!lol.no one there to see me dirty my drawers but it was fun. backing down a steep ramp when i hit some mud, brakes locked up then the pedal hit the floor.water filled the bed and started to come in the doors.only thing i could think to do was jacknife the trailer worked barely.seals in the master cylinder blew out. still had enough brakes to get home safe. i agree on the boat ramps all you can do is laugh !
