Drilled three holes this morning at a farm pond near viola and wow were they biting....I got probably two dozen nice size crappie and well over that for gills. Got to like how the ice is all clear now with our warm ups and cool downs.

Travis, Sure got a problem here. Perhaps you can help me out. I sure enjoyed all the time I spent out there by Viola fishing in that pond. Unfortunatey, I'm getting up in the years and don't recall how to get there. :confused0024::confused0024::evilgrin0039::evilgri n0039:
If you would just PM me the directions and that would jog my memory. Thanks in advance from poor ole Mike:evilgrin0031::evilgrin0031: lol

Ray, I was kidding around ,but I don't think the location is a big deal. I'm just tickeled to hear there are still some ponds left with a decent fishery.
I know of lots of ponds that were put in with help from government programs that I enjoyed fishing as a lad. Sadly most of those ponds are no longer there. In a few places they are farming right over them and others are too silted to hold fish.
There is lots of work properly maintaining a pond. I sure appreciate the few farmers that keep the ponds they have alive. Mike

Got these 2 ponds down south of town Giller, owned by brothers but
on seperate ground, then they got 2 smaller ponds to keep Fathead mimmows
in to feed them Very Large Hybred Gills 1lb+ in Todds pond, and Ricks pond
has 2 1/2 lb + Crappie, they also use rabbit pellets to feed with, the way the
temps have been here the past few days along with 5 to 6 inches of rain
it wont be long to fill the frezzer and get out the Skillet,I normaly only
hit these ponds about 3 times a year each, unless Todd calls to come get
some of the execess 12 to 14 inch Bass.Well i just found out when we
moved back up here Rick buys another 200 acre farm across the road
from his house that has a pond there tellin me is about as good.Would be
glad to tell you where they are but you would probably get lost in the
sticks,But if you and Schoe ever get over this way, i would be more than
happy to Put a paper sack over your heads for the trip in an out.:evilgrin0039: Kirk

I'm glad the guy that owns the pond takes really good care of it, with a little help from me and a friend. We've put a complete grove of evergreens around one half of it and walnuts around another 1/3rd of it, they have really helped keep the farm stuff from getting near the pond and silt getting in is a min. Well on a side note enjoy the snow day all!!!

Did the rain do much damage to the ice up there? I have no idea because I am stuck in Normal where we have gotten mass amounts of rain

Some of the canal ice took a real beating. Right before the last snow, the area down here by Colona was really looking poor w/edges gone. I doubt there is a problem at Isaak Walton though. It is always first freeze--last thaw. :icon_cool::icon_cool: I've only been on one small lake and ice was an unsettling 4" to 5" Mike

Before the last warm spell one of the pits was at 6-6" but found a 2 1/2" spot away from shore and scared the bejeebies out of me. If you go cary rope tied off on shore3 and drill out w/ caution. Mike

Well that idea scares me so i will go with the dependable canal. As they say, you will live to fish another day.
