hit my lil pet pond in the park today.had 5 inches of clear ice under all the snow..started out drilling a series of holes on top of and on the the drop of a good point for bout 50 yards.quickly found out the bass were holding mainly on the base of the drop (14 to 18 ft deep) with the gills bein suspended over the tops of the scattered green weeds in 10 ta 12 ft. of water around 6 or 7 ft. down.....had to change my tactics a little to get them to take the bait well though.bass didnt like my bladebait today,just comin up an nippin at it.after catching a few an losing more on the hookset i switched to a swedish pimple jigging spoon,little smaller profile but still tons of flash and really started nailing them.same kinda story with the gills..they would only take it well on the fall so went a little lighter and fixed that problem for a while...the other fisherman left round 1 pm and i went to my best spot...a 200 yd. ridge that goes from 3 or 4 ft to 18ft off the side.its got a very definate weededge.drilled a series of holes staggered across the drop fer another 50 yds. or so and immediately started picking up bass after bass on the swedish pimple and if i missed one i went right back down with a large ratso to follow up.....works every time! the gills were just insane on this spot,they were hitting so fast i could only use 1 rod.switched back to a banana style glow jig for the faster fall/more active fish and half the time never made it to the bottom.when a hole would slow down a bit id move to the next one....never got to fish all the holes i drilled in the second set,got too dark to see my rod lol........this was one of the best days of ice fishing ive ever had.ended up with over 30 largemouth most being 12 to 13 inches but 2 over 2lbs and one right at 4lbs....9 crappie,3 trout,4 really nice 12 to 13 inch yellow perch and a conservative estimate of over 150 bluegill and redear......all these gills out of a park the state just put a 10 bluegill limit on......no pics because somebody fergot to bring the camera in last night an i had dead batteries:icon_mad:
