Ya'll have probably heard me talk about Don and Angie Minchew's pet.... BABY the owl. Quiet a few years back, a big white owl built her nest in a big tree down by the river behind Don and Angie's house. Angie found a baby owl that had fallen out of the nest, took it inside and raised it as a pet till it grew to adulthood and could fend for it's self. BABY has never forgot her adopted parents and always can be found close to "home". The great thing about it is, each year when BABY hatches out a new brood of chicks, she teaches them about her adopted family. They know that when the weather starts to warm in the spring they can always visit Donnie's floating dock and expect to be treated to a free fish dinner. Don and Angie always make it a point to keep the Bream that they will not eat or use for Flathead bait as a special treat for their extended family. I have had BABY show up while I was Flathead fishing and wait patiently till I laid a Bream up on the bow of my boat. She would swoop down, flaring her three foot wing span, scoop up the fish and disappear into the night. It's just part of the Wewa experience. Then of coarse there's "PETE" the bait thief....but that's another story....Ray

i was there one with ray when he put a bream on the dock post between two other post that were about 16 inches apart, by the time ray could turn this big ol' owl(baby) come sweeping through the up rights like a field goal and snatched that bream abd almost taking ray with it. it shocked us both by the time i could the words outta my mouth ray was like did you see that! so since we had a couple more dead bait he put up another one and once again a different owl come swooping through the up rights by the time he get turned around, it was a pretty cool highlight of one of my trips to wewa(i believe this happened on the trip i was branded by a big ol' gar....
