Gofish, Thanks again for the well written, informative post
As soon as I get a bit of time here, I'll try to pattern our local canal crappie. The real deep holes here are in the 6' range and few of them. lol Mike

I can say I've never hit the canal for crappie. Bass and cats yes, but never crappie....hmmmm.:D

There are crappie in most of the canal pools. The problem is that most are stunted little bug eyed things. I've gotten keepers back west from Geneseo, but no numbers. There are keeper gills there also but again, slim numbers.
I was down towards the lower end of that pool last fall. I got on a nice batch of barely keeper gills. Across from me was a strip of houses. I looked over to those houses and thought what a shame it was that there was probably kids in half of them watching tv when I was having all the fun. Finally a boy I later found was 14 came down to the water and started casting. He wasn't catching anything .I called over and asked if he was using wax worms. He said he had never used them. I told him to check with his mom because I had more than I needed.I drove around to the house and he and his mom came out. I told her that I wanted to set him up for gills in the back yard canal. She said great! I gave him the bait ,floats, and 3 Shadles jigs. and showed him how to set it up. She looked in the bucket and said those are nice fish, I'll bet they will taste great. I told her they came from her back yard and if the family wanted a taste, I'll go home and fillet them for her. I've got entirely too many poles and when I took the 2 1/2 lbs. fillets back I gave the lad an old WM 7' light act. pole. The lad was cleaning 20 more gills he had caught. His dad was there by then and said he had never seen him that excited over fishing. He used to be a bass fisherman and now he is a GILLER. lol Mike

It wasn't really a big deal. I and the wife had a discussion earlier about how much extra stuff we had, and I told her the first time I get a chance ,I'm going to give that WM pole to a kid that will use it . The rest was just a lot of showing off and fun.;) Mike

Don't know if any of you spend much time fishing south of the border, but you may want to take a look at this trip: http://www.adventuretravel-bytag.com
It's an all-inclusive vacation run by Cabela's Outdoor Adventures
